Been a fairly tough job but a good one to kick off the season with. Manufacturer of the tiny home rushed the delivery and due to rain coming there was only two days to cut in a driveway, a flat area for the home and get gravel down for the delivery. Found out upon delivery of the tiny home that the manufacturer does not actually set it so I had to step in and help get it into its actual place. The delivery truck was able to get it within about 10 ft but unable to manipulate the angle. Things are finally starting to shape up but got a day or two more worth of work to go for this project.

Went and looked at a potential job today and it absolutely highlights why it's important to have someone with some horizontal engineering experience to do gradework. This all looks great BUT it all slopes to a corner of the home and water can't escape! Where's it going? Down and soaking into the block foundation and into the garage where it's creating a nice little wet spot and mold. This is 100% a situation where you get what you pay for with operators and gradework. This is why good operators dont work so cheap and cheap operators dont work so good. All this is far easier done when a house is built and things aren't in the way. The situation for this one is tricky but it's absolutely doable. I'll be sharing a Tiktok video later on it. Little bit of staying busy sort of work. Hot water wouldn't shut completely off in this shower so we rebuilt the valves and wound up changing the spout, overflow plate and shower head too. Works great now!!!

Went and looked at a driveway job yesterday and it strikes a reminder some folks may need to get their driveway fixed before we are looking at snowfall. While looking at this driveway it's kind of a bother to see how some folks will take your money and not really give you a proper job. A lot of folks are just tossing down stone and calling it good and that simply isn't the case. This particular driveway was washed out and rutted up in places over a foot and it lies on not grading for drainage. The driveway was cut in essentially like a ditch, no drainage to the sides, no diversion of surface water from above to keep the water from washing direct down the driveway and this is after having it fixed once before. If you want a driveway done right I'm your guy!!

What's the difference in hiring a business with experienced and skilled operators vs just operators? That's a question most people couldn't answer. A lot of people hire unskilled operators and don't realize how it's costing them. Unskilled or inexperienced operators can cost you on a project all the way from start to finish and you won't realize it. Usually they're way way cheaper than anyone and you're getting what you pay for but at the same time it's costing you elsewhere. Mistakes on footers or someone who can't hold grade will cost you extra in concrete or entirely throw a build off as well as make it difficult to accurately estimate the amount of concrete you need, improper strategies can cost you more when being charged hourly, poor gradework can lead to crawlspace or actual house flooding damaging your foundation or more of the home. This is a big issue considering by the time the damage is done the warranty on the foundation will likely have expired and you're footing the bill for something entirely avoidable. Make sure you know the actual skill level of who you're hiring

Little bit of stump removal and grading out some drop offs and an old unnecessary rock ditch. Smoothed things up and back to throw a little seed and straw tomorrow
