Long before nylon and synthetic strings, the Mari family perfected the painstaking craft of gut string making in our New York factory. From carefully preparing sheep intestines to splitting, twisting, scraping, and drying each delicate strand, every step demanded patience, precision, and generations of knowledge.

Derived from the original 1967 no. 780 “Rock & Roll” set. Exactly re-created by LaBella using the original specs and tooling, the wound strings are a polished roundwound design which combines the smoother feel and taut bass response of flatwound strings while preserving more of the ringing harmonic character typical of a roundwound.

This week’s ‘Timeless Tone’ spotlight is the one and only Tony Iommi. Co-founder of the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath and the signature sound that catapulted the genre of heavy rock.

Before launching the commercial signature La Bella campaign decades later, his original connection with the company was built entirely on private, custom manufacturing to accommodate his physical needs. Because La Bella is one of the few string brands that manufactures everything in-house, we could custom-build strings to Tony’s unique specifications. This formed a lasting relationship that still stands strong today.
