UB AIAA

UB AIAA The AIAA club at UB seeks to involve its members with many interesting projects. Such as DBF, Micro- Each engineering club at UB hosts an event.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) club at UB is set with the goal to entice and enrich its members through many interesting projects. Projects are carried on with the intend of introducing, practicing and demonstrating to its members ways of tackling the various challenges proposed. With the wide scale of projects being done, students of all majors are openly welcomed.

Design Build Fly Project:

Captains: Brandon Koblich--([email protected])
Kevin Brogan--([email protected])

Every year AIAA, Cessna, and Raytheon Missile Systems sponsor this competition. It involves design, fabrication and then demonstration of the flight capabilities of an unmanned, electric powered, radio controlled aircraft. The missions and constraints on the aircraft are different every year. At the end of the year, the most active members are invited to attend the competition in Tucson, AZ, or Wichita, KS, all paid for by the club. UB AIAA also has an RC aircraft simulator (RealFlight) and RC airplanes. Both are specifically used for teaching new students to fly for themselves.

Micro Gravity

Captains: Conner Smith--([email protected])
Othmane Brika---([email protected])

Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams (Micro-g NExT) program challenges undergraduate students to design build, and test a tool or device that addresses an authentic, current space exploration challenge. The overall experience includes hands-on engineering design, test operations, and educational/public outreach. Test operations are conducted in the simulated microgravity environment of the NASA Johnson Space Center Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL). Teams will propose, design and prototype a tool or simulant identified by NASA engineers as necessary in space exploration missions. Professional NBL divers will test the tools and students will direct the divers from the Test Conductor Room of the NBL facility. Teams can choose from three design challenges.

Bot Wars Competition

Captain: TBD

Every year, the Student Association hosts Engineering Week. The week is ended with the Bot Wars. Bot Wars is a battle bot tournament where each club builds their own bot and compete against the other clubs. As with the other projects mentioned above, this project is open to any major as it involves the application of several fields. And since this is a very fun experience, it is highly recommended for absolutely anyone and everyone!

A big thanks to John Mika, and everyone at The Teacher's Desk for allowing us to volunteer for such a great cause! It was a great way to get our hearts light before the much dreaded finals week.
Also thanks to everyone who, despite the early hours and cold weather, volunteered. Your help is greatly appreciated.
