We are so excited to announce Bellville Little League was awarded BASEBALL FIELD OF THE FREAKIN’ YEAR by the Texas Turfgrass Association!!! It was quite the surprise when we were notified but had to keep it a secret until it was formally announced. They present awards each year for baseball, softball, soccer, football and multi-use fields of the year and we were in pretty good company. To put it in to perspective, PNC Stadium (home of the Houston Dynamo) won Soccer Field of the Year. We are most proud of the fact that we were the only recipients using all volunteer labor and donations/sponsorships from our loyal community supporters (we were also proud of being the only recipient who did not nominate themselves!). This is 100% a community award, it truly takes a village. Our sponsors, who support us year in and year out, allow us to responsibly stretch every dollar as far as we can while keeping registration costs flat and still have a safe and attractive playing surface for our 550+ Little League’rs. Along with the Board members who work extremely hard year around to keep our field in top notch shape, we want to thank some specific volunteers who have put in so much time up here on the fields themselves: Our weekly mower Gene Maze puts in many hours on the mower year around for us, twice a week to be exact! We couldn’t get it done without him and he is a godsend to us! Once the season starts he is able to keep up with the mowing during the afternoon hours while no ballgames are goin on. Clint Evans with 4C Turf Solutions had a vision for our fields and knew it could be a place the community could be proud of. He rallied the Board of Directors to put their faith in his expertise and he took our fields to the next level. He put in countless hours on the mower and managed the treatments/applications single handedly up until his career took him out of Bellville. Robert Klepac with Bob Klepac Exterminating Service answered the call for help and has continued to manage the applications, help monitor and repair the irrigation, and handle all of the overseeding. He puts in the time that nobody sees and most don’t even realize just how big of a role Robert plays in the whole thing. All of these thank you’s are going to people who would never ask a dime for their time and will probably be mad at us for putting them in the spotlight, too bad!!!
