Somerset Hall
📍 Ludlow, Kentucky

Somerset Hall is a fascinating historic home with a story that dates back nearly two centuries.

Originally built as the summer home of the Kenner family, wealthy Louisiana planters, the mansion reflects both the prosperity and the difficult realities of its era. Historical accounts tell of enslaved people who accompanied the family to Kentucky, with some reportedly escaping to freedom across the nearby Ohio River. There are also longstanding stories that the home may have been connected to the Underground Railroad, though that has never been conclusively proven.

The house originally faced the Ohio River. When it was built, the surrounding neighborhood didn’t exist. As the property was divided and Ludlow grew, new streets and homes were built around it, and the main entrance was eventually turned toward Closson Court.

The home later served as the meeting place for Unity Lodge No. 478 F.&A.M. Today it is a private residence and remains one of Ludlow’s best known historic landmarks.
