I-40 is open to traffic! Crews worked hard to clean up debris from 4 different areas along I-40 near the TN/NC border, as well as repair the on- and off-ramps at the Waterville exit, after last week’s flooding and slides. We had originally estimated two weeks for the repair, but it was completed in just about a week. We are thankful for the hard work that went into reopening this vital roadway. I-40 has returned to one lane of travel in each direction, with a lowered speed limit. Oversized loads are not allowed. This restriction is related to the repair from Hurricane Helene in September 2024, not the recent rockslide. Crews will continue to be working on I-40 and we remind people to slow down in work zones, for their safety and the safety of the crews.

Bryant’s Land & Development Industries Inc has been contracted to assist in Hurricane Helene debris cleanup. The temporary position of Administrative Field Support has been created to manage the paperwork and billing associated with these contracts. The following is a list of duties assigned to the Administrative Field Support personnel:

• Daily collection of debris haul tickets.
• Maintaining Excel spreadsheet used to manage information provided by the debris haul tickets.
• Organize and maintain files for tickets.
• Provide management with information related to the data updated in the Excel spreadsheet.
• Create weekly invoices for the payment of services rendered under these contracts.

This position is expected to last 3-4 months, with 4-5 hours a day, Monday through Friday. The hours worked are negotiable, within reason.

Motor Fleet Manager

Job duties include, but are not limited to: Keeping all equipment and vehicles well maintained; assisting on-site shop in finding and ordering parts and supplies for vehicles and equipment; ensuring that tags, registrations, decals, etc. are renewed in a timely manner; obtaining tag and registration for newly purchased vehicles and equipment; scheduling equipment for delivery to and from jobs, and ensuring proper permits have been obtained; ensuring that newly purchased and rental equipment is insured as required; fuel monitoring; other duties as needed.

Skills needed: Detail oriented; must be able to work well with people; familiarity with computers; familiarity with construction equipment.

CDL license would be an asset, but is not required

Bryant’s Land & Development Industries, Inc has been awarded the Brush and Debris Cleanup contract for most of Yancey County. We are looking for local Yancey County personnel to work on this contract. We would prefer to staff these positions from our local community. The following positions are available:
• CDL drivers to operate our company owned dump trucks
• Operators to run track hoes, knuckle-boom loaders, dozers, and off-road trucks
• Chainsaw operators
• Temporary office staff member to organize and track daily ticket operations and related duties to this contract. This position will be for approximately 3-6 months.
In addition, BLDI is looking for local personnel who would be capable of loading and hauling brush and debris using their own vehicles and/or trailers. To be considered eligible for this position, the following applies:
o Valid Driver License and valid insurance
o A vehicle and/or trailer to transport debris to designated sites
o Equipment or capability to load the debris on your vehicle/trailer
o Vehicles and trailers must pass the contractor’s inspection
o Pay is based on cubic yards hauled and inspected by an official site representative. Pay will be every two weeks, after the first week of work
o There will be 10% retainage until end of project

Entirety of Parkway closed in North Carolina - MP 217 at the NC state line to MP 469 in Cherokee, NC.

As a result, the following facilities are also closed:

Doughton Park Campground and Picnic Area at milepost 239 & 241 and Price Park Campground and Picnic Area at milepost 296.9. Reservation holders will be notified.

Doughton Park Visitor Center at milepost 241.1, Moses Cone Manor House at milepost 294, the Minerals Museum at milepost 330.9, and the Asheville Visitor Center at milepost 384

Additional updates are as follows:

The Pisgah Inn at milepost 408.6 is only accessible via Hwy 276.

The Folk Art Center at milepost 382 is accessible via US-70.

These severe weather closures are full closures to all public use. Closures are expected to remain in place until the storm passes, and staff can safely assess the park and clear any storm damage. The park will issue updates when they are available.
