Do's and Don't with fence companies.

-Do verify licensing and insurance. Ensure they’re covered for liability and legally legit.
-Do get written quotes. Compare detailed estimates (labor, materials, timeline) from at least three.
-Do hire contractors who don’t subcontract. Ask if they’ll do the work themselves—subs can mean less control and accountability.
-Do check their liability insurance, that it is not just them but all laborers.
-Do use a contract. Lock in costs, timeline, and terms in writing.

Don’ts
-Don’t pick the first or cheapest. Rushing risks shoddy work or scams.
-Don’t skip references. No proof of past jobs? Pass.
-Don’t pay upfront in full. A deposit’s fine—hold the rest until it’s done right. Usually 50% can be paid after all materials have been delivered.
-Don’t ignore poor communication. Vague or unresponsive contractors spell trouble.
-Don’t assume cleanup’s included. Confirm they won’t leave a mess.
-Don’t skip warranty talk. Get a workmanship guarantee, not just material coverage.
