Brrrr - no hot water.
Cold shower, washing dishes in cold water - none of it is a pleasant experience.
Here are some reasons you may not have any hot water.
1. Sediment build-up inside the tank which can cause a 50-gallon tank to function as a 35-40 gallon tank.
2. Broken or deteriorated dip tube - a tell-tale sign of this is small white plastic fragments appearing in faucet aerators or showerhead screens.
3. A faulty thermostat or heating element which is one of the most common ailments.
4. The water heater is undersized or simply aging - they can significantly lose efficiency after 8-10 years.
If you are experiencing a significant hot water shortage with no change to your daily habits and use, contact Patriot Plumbing Services today at 703-365-7707!

Haven't noticed a leak sneaking out from underneath your fridge?
You may still want to have your icemaker/water line inspected if you have the following scenarios:
1. Your home is aging and/or has the original water supply lines
2. You have moisture near your kitchen sink and/or refrigerator
3. You currently rent - you can still face significant damage to your own personal property if a water line leaks.
4. There is a musty odor near the refrigerator
5. You can see that the water supply line is visibly cracked, worn, kinked or made of old plastic tubing (newer tubing is made of a braided stainless steel).
6. Your water bill has increased significantly.
If you are in fact experiencing these issues, give Patriot Plumbing Services a call at 703-365-7707. We'll have one of our technicians come out, evaluate the issue, and repair before a small leak turns into costly water damage.

Here's a scenario you don't want to face.
You get up in the morning, head into the kitchen to make your coffee, and water is all over the floor.
You investigate, and it appears to have come from under the fridge.
That little tube in the back of your fridge which provides water to the icemaker and water dispenser has more than likely failed, and the cleanup can be disastrous.
Chances are, that leak started as a small drip which grew undetected for days. It may have already caused some damage to the floor, cabinets and subfloor.
What should you do if this happens?
1. Turn off the water supply to the ice maker immediately - the shut-off valve is usually located under the kitchen sink or behind the refrigerator
2. If you cannot find the shut-off valve, or it won't turn off, turn off the main water supply to the home to prevent further damage.
3. Unplug the refrigerator before inspecting any connections - water and electricity in close proximity to each other is a serious safety hazard that can easily lead to electrocution.
4. Contact Patriot Plumbing Services at 703-365-7707. You'll want to have the line, fittings and valve inspected by a licensed plumber who can determine the issue.

Drain snakes - they can be a wonderful tool when unclogging your drain!
However, if not used properly, they can cause significant damage to your pipes.
Here's some tips!
1. Use a small plastic hair removal tool or a short-hand snake only for visible hair near a tub or shower drain.
2. Keep the tool near the opening and avoid forcing it past strong resistance.
3. For deeper clogs, professional drain cleaning is usually the safer choice.
4. When comparing hydro jetting vs drain snake, a trained technician can choose the right method based on the pipe condition and clog type.

All of us have experienced a clogged drain!
Did you know drain cleaners are NOT the way to go about getting rid of the clog?
4 simple ways to get rid of a clogged drain are:
1. Using a plunger
2. Covering the overflow opening with a damp rag to keep pressure focused in the drain.
3. Use a few firm plunges to loosen soft debris without harsh chemicals.
4. If the clog keeps coming back, it needs professional attention for deeper cleaning.
If you've made it to step 4 and and the drain is still clogged - contact us at https://patriotplumbingservices.net/contact-us. We'll get rid of it for you!

So many go on vacation throughout the summer. You want to come home relaxed and refreshed - and not come home to a mess.

Here are some plumbing tips so you can return without any worries!
1. Shut off the main water supply or key fixtures if you are going away for a significantly long trip. Shorter trips - turn off water access to toilets, washing machines. dishwashers, hose bibs and ice makers.
2. Inspect utility rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and laundry for leaks prior to your trip.
3. If your water heater has a vacation setting, turn it on to save energy and protect it. If not, lower the temperature but do not turn it off.
4. Test the sump pump and other outdoor connections. Ensure that the sump pump works correctly and that there are no pipes leaking.

What are the signs your plumbing fixtures are due for an upgrade?

🔎 A few clear signs will alert you as long as you are aware of them.

☑️ Constant dripping or a leaky faucet that resists every tightening and washer replacement
☑️ Discolored water or rust stains in the sink or tub from old pipes and aging fixture internals
☑️ Low water pressure at one fixture, even when other taps run normally
☑️ Visible corrosion, peeling finish, or aesthetic appeal that’s gone from outdated materials
☑️ Higher monthly bills with no change in water usage, suggesting hidden leaks or worn parts

If you are experiencing one of these signs, just keep an eye on the issue. If you are experiencing more than one sign, your plumbing fixtures are costing you money each month that they stay in place.
