Hydroseeding was scheduled to start today, but the rain we got has pushed them back a day. Green Cat Services plans to start hydroseeding around town tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19. Thank you!

Update for August 13 -

Later this week, or early next week, Green Cat Services will be coming to hydroseed all the areas of town that were torn up during the street project. They plan to be here several days.

If your lawn is hydroseeded, we would like to provide some information for successful grass growth:

Water Instructions 💦

The importance of proper water cannot be stressed enough. Seeded areas will need continuous moisture from either irrigation or rainfall. In general, the soil must be moist at all times. Conditions such as sun, shade and terrain slope will make a difference in water requirements. If possible, water every 2-3 days keeping the soil moist beneath the hydro-mulch.

Germination will usually take 2 to 4 weeks before you notice seedlings emerging from the ground and then your water regiment can be reduced by half to encourage deep rooting. Do not stop watering altogether until the newly seeded areas have been mowed at least 3 times. Please note that each grass seed variety used will germinate at different times and newly seeded areas will not become fully mature for at least 6 months.

Once your lawn is established, watering “deeply and infrequently” is always best as this will encourage deep rooting, especially during the summer months.

Mowing Instructions ✂️

From the time new seedlings have emerged until they are at least 3” tall, use caution while mowing, especially while making turns, as tires on riders, zero-turns or commercial mowers can easily uproot the grass plant. Avoid trimming new seedlings with a w**d eater or edger until the grass plant grows to at least 3.5” - 4” tall. Continue to use caution while mowing/trimming until the newly seeded areas have been cut at least 3 times.

Additional Tips & General Information 🌱

• If possible, keep animal and foot traffic to a minimum in newly seeded areas until the grass plant grows to at least 3 inches tall or preferably until after the 3rd mowing.
• If your lawn is seeded in the fall, please carefully rake and remove any leaves that may fall over newly seeded areas.
• Do not use any w**d control herbicides for the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Follow-up Care ‼️

Regularly scheduled applications of fertilizer will result in a healthier lawn and help build turf density which will be your best defense in combating w**ds. When the weather gets colder, your lawn will begin to go dormant and turn a dull green/brown color but the root system will continue to grow until the ground freezes. A winter fertilizer application is extremely beneficial during this time and is considered to be the 2nd best fertilizer application of the entire year, especially for newly seeded lawns.

Following the above recommendations for taking care of a newly seeded lawn and continuous proper cultural practices will help you guarantee a successful establishment of a healthy lawn.

Update for Wednesday, August 6 -

Paving should wrap up tomorrow (Thursday) as long as we don't run into any issues. 🥳🥳

The concrete crew left for another project but plans to come back next week to wrap up any/all concrete work that is still needed.

Our dirt crew plans to return towards the end of the month to complete their unfinished business around town.

Another of our crews is still going around filling in topsoil in preparation for hydroseeding. Seeding will likely happen in the next couple weeks. We will post when it does so that we can give you a few tips for helping your new grass grow.

We will still be working here a few more weeks to get everything wrapped up, but things will slow down and go back to 'normal' for the most part after this week. Thank you for being patient with us all summer. It was greatly appreciated!

Enjoy the new streets of Langdon! Please remember that just because the new streets may look and feel like a racetrack, doesn't mean they are. 🏎😉 Drive safe and have a great rest of your summer! 🛣

Update for Tuesday, July 29 -

All the dirt work that needs to be done before paving has been completed. Another step closer to completion! ✔️

The concrete crew has a little more alley work to do and a few loose ends to tie up, then they will be the next ones to leave town after a job well done. 🥳

Our paving crew had a short day today, as a bearing went out at our asphalt plant which halted production. I believe it has been fixed, so we should be up and running again tomorrow. 🤞They will continue to get a first layer of asphalt on everything, then go back and do the second layer of asphalt on everything that hasn't gotten it yet. They are hoping to be out of here by the end of next of week... off to Manvel for the next job!

The engineers have been going around making sure everything looks right before we wrap things up. After paving, all that is left is more clean up work and hydroseeding grass.

Have a great rest of your week!

Update Monday July 28 -

Business as usual for this week (as soon as the weather cooperates):

- Dirt work is happening on the east side of town (9th Ave. E. frontage road, 16th ST. E., 108th Ave NE)

- Paving will continue on the north side of town, moving to the east. Places that haven't received a second layer will get that as well.

- The concrete crew still has a few more valley gutters (and half valley gutters) to pour. They will also continue alley work in the downtown area.

- Cleanup will continue around town as we wrap up street work. We will be bringing dirt to areas that need it and packing it down in preparation for grass seeding. More info on grass seeding to come in the next couple weeks when we get to that step.

Hope everyone is enjoying the new streets, and you find them worth the headaches the process brought. 🫠 Pictured are a few 9th St. N. kids enjoying a little street hockey on their newly paved street! ☺️

Update for Tuesday, July 23 -

We are moving water with the intensions to work today... rain, rain go away!

As long as the weather cooperates, the cement treat crew will wrap up work today. Woo hoo!

The concrete crew will continue with valley gutter work as soon as we get water pumped (again). They also plan to get working on the alleyways in the very near future; that had to be put on hold so they could finish curbs and gutters ahead of the paving crew (who are over 3 weeks AHEAD of schedule on this project... lucky Langdon!).

The paving crew will continue the second lift (layer) in areas they haven't done and will also keep pace behind the other crews as they complete pavement preparation in other areas of town (east side). The paving crew is hoping to be done and out of here in three weeks or less, so the finish line is definitely in sight.

After that, we will just be working on remaining concrete work, clean up, hauling in dirt in spots that need it, and replanting grass around town. Next year will be chip sealing all of these streets + a few more. Easy peasy!

Have a great day and, as always, please drive cautiously around town!

Update for July 22 -

We will spend today pumping water (again...we just got all our holes pumped out yesterday 😝) ... which will delay our schedules a day.

We will likely not be paving today. We are hoping to get a little work done, but it will just depend on how things dry out.

Cross your fingers that we can get some dry weather so we can keep moving! 🤞

Here is a closer look at where the valley gutters that still need to be poured are located. These will be poured over the next week or so and will require the area to be blocked off for 24-48 hours.

You will notice that four different dead-end streets will be cut off by these valley gutters (circled areas). The plan is to pour these 4 valley gutters on Tuesday. Residents on these streets will NOT have access Tuesday night while they cure (unless there is an emergency), but we will ramp the gutters on Wednesday so you can get in/out as needed as soon as possible. Please plan accordingly. If you know someone in these areas that does not have Facebook to see this post, please let them know so they aren't blocked in (or out) Tuesday afternoon/evening.

Please reach out if you have questions or concerns. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

Update for Monday, July 21 -

Good morning and happy Monday!

Prep work (dirt removal, cement treat/geogrid, and grading) will continue in the areas marked on picture one. They are currently in the green circle areas and then will be moving east to the frontage road and 15th and 16th St. E. After that, these crews will have completed their work! 🥳

Our paving crew is still on the north end of town in the marked area of picture two. They will keep working behind the prep work crews, but if/when they catch up to them, they will move back to the west side of town and keep putting the second layer on streets north of Hwy. 5. Once your street gets its second layer, all that is left is a little cleanup work and hydroseeding any grass that was disturbed.

The most important thing to note this week is that the concrete crew will be pouring 14 more valley gutters, which will cause roadblocks for 24-48 hours (depending on how they cure). Their locations are as followed (marked on the third map) and will likely be poured in the order listed. They plan to pour 6 valley gutters a day, wait until they cure, reopen the road, and then pour 6 more. The concrete crew will also be working on the alleyways downtown, curb headers on 10th and 9th Streets, a spillway on 14th St., and in the area of the Dairy Queen.

Valley gutter locations:
- 9th St. and 10th Ave.
- 9th St. and 12th Ave.
- 9th St. and 13th Ave.
- 10th St. and 13th Ave. (2 directions)
- 11th St. and 16th Ave. (2 directions)
- 10th St. and 17th Ave. (when this is poured, residents living north will have to enter/exit from the north end of town)
- 8th St. and 17th Ave. (when this is poured, residents living north will have to enter/exit from the north end of town)
- 8th St. and 18th Ave.
- 6th St. and 17th Ave.
- 7th St. and 20th Ave.
- 3rd St. and 14th Ave.
- 2nd St. and 10th Ave.

Please plan accordingly with these temporary closures in mind. Drive safe, allow extra time, and watch out for crews, equipment and road hazards. And please, pretty please, stay off of any fresh cement until they remove barriers! 🙃

Have a great week and please tell Mother Nature to turn off the rain for a bit so we can start wrapping things up! 🤞

Happy MusicFest!

Since it’s one of the busiest days of the year in town, we wanted to let you know exactly where we are working today….

We will be paving north 9th, 8th and 7th Streets today.

Trucks will be coming in from Highway 1 on the township road on the north end of town, then exiting via 17th Ave. —> 6th St. —> 15th Ave. back out to Hwy. 1. Avoiding that area will limit your construction inconveniences for the day. ☺️🚧

Have a great day taking in all the activities and be safe!

Update for Thursday, July 17 -

We are moving right along; and they took the rain out of the forecast for tomorrow. Win-win!

The dirt work, cement treat, and grading crews are moving into the area in picture number one. They plan to start on 10th Ave. tomorrow. I don’t believe they plan to work Saturday, so they will work tomorrow and continue on in this area next week. After that, the only area they have left is the very east side of town (frontage road and streets north). 🎉

Our paving crew is wrapping up getting the first layer done on everything in picture number two. I believe they are currently working on 10th St., working their way east and south. Our paving crew does plan to work Saturday, so if they catch up to where the other crews leave off, they are going to start back on the west side of town (12th St. area) with the second (final) layer of asphalt.

I will post soon regarding the plan for valley gutters being poured next week, as that will cause some road closures again.

Have a great rest of the week!
