Do you love carnations? Let me show you why you should:

The light pink spray carnations in the bouquet below are from an event on June 20!!! That is 10 days of vase life and they were just added to a fresh arrangement. Carnations, sweet william and dianthus are absolute power houses in a vase when cared for properly. I love being able to salvage flowers from previous arrangements and give them new life!
Part of the sedum in this arrangement is also from June 20. It will eventually grow roots, and I will pot it up to plant out in the fall 🌸
Don’t ditch that full bouquet for a couple of spent blooms. Salvage what you can and add some new life! Oftentimes I will just remove spent flowers, grab a smaller vase and keep going until I have cycled down to a bud vase.

Have you changed the water for your fresh cut flowers yet? Changing the water and giving the stems a little snip adds time to your beautiful bouquets! I like to add a bit of sugar and a dribble of bleach to my water. The flowers love the sugar and the bleach keeps the bacteria from “dirty flowers” from breeding. Flowers that tend to produce more bacteria are sunflowers, gerbera daisy, zinnia, marigolds, grasses, cress, feverfew, snap dragons, celosia,yarrow, rudbeckia and bachelor buttons. There are more, however the flowers mentioned are what you will likely see the most of this season. Personally, I put a dribble of bleach in every vase regardless of the flower 🌸

P.S. isn’t that pink gerbera a stunner?! I smile every time I catch a glimpse of her. Last year the Aurora zinnias had my heart, this year I think the gerberas are my favorites!
