🌳 Don’t overlook the mighty Sycamore tree!
The American Sycamore is a classic native tree and one of the largest hardwoods in eastern North America. While mature sycamores can get very large, homeowners with space often pass them over in favor of more commonly planted shade or ornamental trees.
Fast-growing when young, sycamores develop into spectacular specimen trees with broad canopies & unmatched character. Their distinctive bark exfoliates in patches, exposing white, cream, or gray tones that make them instantly recognizable – especially during the winter.
Sycamores can sometimes get Sycamore Anthracnose, a fungal disease that can cause leaf drop in cool, wet springs. The good news? The trees usually recover well and often produce a fresh flush of leaves once warmer weather hits.
We recently found the young sycamores pictured at a nursery and bought them immediately as they can be surprisingly hard to find.
Don’t give up on the Sycamore. It’s one of our favorites!
