The Dead Artists Gallery

The Dead Artists Gallery 📍151 Main Street, Highlands, NC 28741
Come see a large selection of affordable decorative art dating back to the late 18th-20th century Welcome to our Gallery.

The Dead Artists Gallery was created to provide Interior Designers and Architects affordable fine art as decoration for local as well as international client projects. We are proud to offer one of the largest selections of mid-eighteenth through mid-twentieth century art in the Southeast. These are singular, one-off pieces since most of the artists are no longer painting (though all may not be dea

d!). Sizes, color palates and appropriate period framing have all been taken into consideration; the art ranges from whimsical to serious. Because some of our art is decorative for art’s sake, not all of our artists have been identified. Some have been described by our “pickers” without our authentication, but given out of interest. Please call for additional information. For the trade, frame sizes are the dimensions given; canvas size furnished on request. Shipping available to continental United States; pricing includes packing, shipping and insurance. To learn more about our gallery please visit us at: www.TheDeadArtistsGallery.com

Post-war Paris...
Every street and Cafe filled with thankful citizens and visitors alike. The years of occupation, still fresh in every mind, would soon be outweighed by normalcy, although never forgotten. This heavy impasto oil on canvas captures that exuberance and joy. Precursor of the Parisian Street artist, this piece is signed lower right and housed in its original painted wood frame 41 x 33 circa 1950, $975.

"Birds of a Feather". Mixed media oil on canvas signed and dated L/L"Sue Hugh, '84." Reflecting the surrealistic automatism and abstract curvilinear style ofJoan Miro (1893-1983), this enigmatic impression of an exotic bird was framed by the artist and is 25 1/2 x 19 1/2 in a floating style frame. Interesting focal point for an otherwise quiet room! And, note the color splash!$575.

Some more from the talented Mr.
Chanase. Pencil and watercolor, pen and charcoal, and pencil; each has been treated with Archival U-V film. All were done in Arles, 1929, and framed in the same Italian silver frame as the rest. (see post from three days ago.) The watercolor is 16 x 16, and the other two 21 x 16.... All three are the same exceptional value at $395 each. Second image...On the left.."La Rondine" (The
Swallow) and on the right, "La Portata" (The Reach). The first, pen and ink on heavy manila cardboard, and the second, pencil on same; both protected by Archival UV film.
Signed lower- right by the well recognized California/ New York artist Dane Chanase, they come from a recently purchased portfolio of his work done in and about the San Tropez area between 1928 and 1930. Ricardo Dane Chanase (1894-1975) was an Italian-American muralist registered with the WPA NYC Art War Service who studied with George Bridgeman, Paul Baudoin and Maurice Denis. His first solo exhibition was in Paris, 1931, where he received a metal from the French government. Member of the National Society of Mural Painters, the Brooklyn Society of Painters, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Society of Independent Artists. Although much of an individualist as an artist, Chanase certainly shows the influence of his contemporary Diego Rivera (1886-1957).
One 14 x 12; the other 17 x 11. Presented in contemporary Italian silver frames and $395 each.
