Sometimes, no matter how meticulously you stage a job, lay out the schedule, or double-check the packing list, the plan simply falls apart at the home stretch.
Today was supposed to end with pulling into my own driveway, kicking back, and sleeping in my own bed. Instead, I’m looking at four walls, a flickering hotel TV, and a room key I didn’t plan on holding tonight.
It’s easy to get frustrated when an unexpected hiccup, a last-minute project delay, gear trouble, or just life throwing a wrench in the gears forces an extra night on the road. But if working out in the field teaches you anything, it’s adaptability. Plans are just baseline ideas; reality is what happens when you're actually out there doing the work.
So, here’s to another night in a hotel room, grabbing whatever dinner is nearby, taking a deep breath, and resetting for tomorrow. The job will get finished, the road back home isn't going anywhere, and tomorrow's return will feel that much better.
Onto the morning shift.
