MY TWO CENTS FOR TODAY
A little Light Hearted Banter about things on my mind!
Last year I was bitten by the DRONE bug and I purchased a couple but wound up with five of them. Well, right off the bat before I actually learned how to fly them I took one outside to play around with it. I pressed the wrong button and up they went as far as the eye could see. The last time I saw them they were going down Chesterfield Avenue toward Bascom and toward the railroad tracks. A year after that happened I found one in the backyard realizing that my eyes did not see it going down Chesterfield Avenue toward Bascom a year ago.
Most recently I had a Spring Fling party and I got bored waiting on folks to show up and I decided to take one and fly it. Well, you guessed it. I was able to fly it and hold it steady in the air then, suddenly; it decided to take a nose dive right and landed right in the middle of the worst patch of poison ivy I’ve ever seen. I took some tongs and got it out and it’s still on my front porch waiting for a dry wash.
Most of you know I started a landscape gardening business 10 years ago and the key has been my physical ability to do it. I have slowed a little but I get out there every day and do something in the dirt. I firmly believe that has kept me on this side of a dirt nap. With congestive heart failure, diet and exercise is key to long term survival from heart failure knowing that will be my demise eventually. I have lived with it for 12 years now and I’m stronger than I was back in 2014 when I was first diagnosed. I could drop dead tomorrow but I have at least given myself a chance for a few more years to see what happens. The aging process is unbelievable but that’s for another day.
My normal rule of thumb is that I live each day like it is my last one and that way I stay busy, active, engaged and too busy to dwell on the negative thoughts that creep in. I have to keep moving to keep moving because if I don’t move, I can’t move!
Back in my high school and college days I wrote an opinion column for the Union News in Marshville and later it merged with the Marshville Home and became the Union New News & Home It has been gone a long time, going the way of most small town newspapers. This experience helped me prepare for journalism school later and in this column, I could write about anything. My mother saved all of these over a period of several years and she gave all of them back to me before she passed away. Some of them I will share here but most are about things I don’t remember or about people I don’t recall. Regardless, it’s interesting to take a look back at those. It was originally titled, “The Youthful Way” and evolved into “Contributor’s Journal”. Each of those ended with a few simple words, “more next week, probably”
…..and today I will close by saying, THAT’S MY TWO CENTS FOR TODAY!
