Another finished build a customer sent us after adding his own final touches, and boy, did it turn out beautiful! 😍🐔

We framed this coop for Corey in Hillsville, VA, last month, and he took it from there! It’s always a treat seeing how customers bring their vision to life after our part is done.

I know we’ve been a little quiet the past few weeks, but I’ve been spending some time bringing a backyard vision of mine to life—one I’ve had for years! I call it my “man cave”, but I’m sure my kids will take it over from me very soon 🤣

Building coops during the day and working on my own project throughout the night hasn’t been easy, but it’s finally coming together… so thank you all for your patience!! And who said coops were the only thing we could build? 🤪

I’m excited to announce that backyard bars, kitchens, and pergolas will be joining the Clay’s Custom Coops 2027 catalog of builds! 🔥

There’s nothing like bringing the comfort of your kitchen and living room outdoors. Throw a few steaks on the grill, pull up a chair, turn on some football, and relax! 😎🏈🥩

I’m not sure which I enjoy more—building these beautiful custom coops or seeing pictures after customers add their own final touches! 😍

A few weeks ago, we delivered this custom 6x8 coop with an attached 16-foot run to Audrey in Rock Hill, SC. Today, she sent me this picture after painting the exterior, and for a second, I didn’t think it was the same coop!

The light blue, white trim, and brown wood accents really set this coop off. Add in the flowers, lights, and landscaping, and she’s made it her own. She did an amazing job!

Seeing something we built become part of someone’s backyard like this makes the work even more rewarding. 🐔

🐔🏡 Move-in day for the flock in Reidsville, NC!

Yesterday, we delivered and completed on site this beautiful 6x10 custom coop with an attached 10x20 run for Holly! The chickens were so ready to check out their new home, they started moving in before we even finished cleaning up. 😂

This custom setup features:
✨ 6x3 walk-in storage area
✨ Spacious 6x7 roosting area with removable roosting bars
✨ Vinyl flooring for easy cleanup
✨ Galvalume roofing
✨ Automatic chicken door
✨ Large glass front window
✨ Dutch-style doors inside the coop and on the run
✨ Corner roosts in the run for extra hangout space
✨ Two front lights that really set this coop off at night!

Now these ladies can get busy arguing over the best roost and claiming their favorite nesting boxes. Rent is due daily—fresh eggs accepted! 😂🥚

🐔 Another custom build delivered to Gastonia, NC! 🙌🏽

Megan purchased a coop from me back in April, and it didn’t take long before she decided it was time to expand! This time around, she needed something a little different. She had a few roosters that were better off being neighbors rather than roommates 🤣 — so we built her a custom 6x15 split coop and run designed specifically for them.

This one is divided almost right down the middle, giving each side its own space while a wire divider runs throughout the run so everybody can still see and interact with each other.

We added two Dutch doors for separate access to each run, two automatic chicken doors and ramps, separate coop areas, nesting boxes, and an oversized rear coop door that makes accessing both sides easy.

Tucked back in the woods, I think that evergreen metal roof was the perfect choice. 🌲 It really sets off the natural wood and black hardware and fits the surroundings perfectly.

While I was there, I also caught a glimpse of the coop I built for Megan back in April, and WOW! She added her own stain and decor, and it looks amazing! I always love getting to see how customers make these coops their own after delivery. 👏🐔

And these Silkies wasted absolutely NO time checking out their new setup and moving right in. 🤣

Always appreciate a repeat customer trusting me with another custom build!

My mini me putting the final touches on and inspecting this beautiful custom coop we just finished up! 🐔🔨

I’d say it passed inspection. 👍😂 And as usual, she had to leave her own little handwritten message behind. 🥰 (I never tell her what to write, but apparently “chicken butt” was the official stamp of approval on this one 🤣)

They say when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work. It’s even better when you get to share it with the ones you love most. ❤️

Making memories, building something we’re proud of, and hopefully teaching her a thing or two along the way.

🐔 Custom Coop — Frame-Only Build 🔨

A while back, I delivered a coop to a customer who told me, “I was going to build my own, but I didn’t know where to start.” She had purchased plans online, but once she started looking everything over, it just seemed too complicated.

That conversation gave me the idea to offer a frame-only option in addition to our completed, move-in-ready coops.

It’s a great option for those who want the hands-on experience of finishing their own dream coop, without having to tackle the hardest part—getting the structure framed and everything laid out correctly.

Just like our finished coops, every frame-only build is custom built to fit the customer’s needs and ideas. Once we get the structure built and assembled, the customer can take it from there and add their own siding, roofing, colors, hardware cloth, doors, and finishing touches.

This 10x12 coop frame with an offset peak roof was delivered and assembled last week for Corey in Hillsville, Virginia. Corey sent me a few pictures of what he had in mind, and we made it happen!

Can’t wait to see how he finishes this one!

🐔 Another Custom Coop Delivered & Set Up!

We recently delivered and set up this 6x8 custom chicken coop with an attached 8x16 run for Audrey in Rock Hill, South Carolina!

Audrey found these beautiful oversized windows and transom window and asked me to incorporate them into the design. They turned out to be the perfect touch and really helped give this coop its own unique look.

This build features a walk-in storage area, spacious roosting area, dropping board beneath the roosts for easy cleaning, vinyl flooring, automatic chicken door, large covered run with corner roosts, and a Dutch-style run door. We finished it off with a Light Stone metal roof.

Tucked back into the woods, this one looks like it was meant to be there. 🌲🐓

Some coops are just too big to deliver in one piece… so sometimes I have to bring the shop to the customer. 🐔🏠

Last week I spent a few days in Glen Allen, Virginia delivering and setting up this 6x12 coop with an attached 12x20 run — and this one definitely earned the title “Chicken Mansion.”

This build was packed with custom features, including:

• Torched wood finished with a clear water seal
• Black metal roof
• Black hardware cloth and accents
• Vinyl flooring inside the coop
• Automatic chicken door
• Built-in brooder box with p**p shelf top
• Built-in storage area
• Plenty of roosting space
• Solar-powered 4-fan wall unit for ventilation
• Black barn lights
• Hardware cloth buried around the entire run for extra predator protection

The torched wood absolutely made this coop pop. The deep, rich tones mixed with the black roof, black hardware cloth, and barn lights gave it a bold, rustic, one-of-a-kind look. Definitely not your average backyard chicken coop.

This was one of those builds that had to be delivered in sections and finished on-site. A little more work, a little more sweat 😂 — but seeing everything come together made it worth it.

Huge thank you to Stephanie for trusting me with this build — and for taking care of me while I was there with dinner and a hotel.

The coop turned out so nice I told her I was just going to spend the night in it, but she insisted on the hotel 😂

That’s one of my favorite parts about building truly custom coops. No cookie-cutter designs, no assembly line — just building something unique around the customer, their property, and their flock.
