Thanks to Nate Fournier and Lucy Smith of Reimagined Roots for an outstanding presentation last night at the Charlton Garden Club monthly meeting. Members in attendance learned "lots" about permaculture. Wish the presentation could have been a couple more hours long! So much to know!

Two special occasions to celebrate on July 8 - National Cucumber Salad Day and National Raspberry Day!

While you might think of cucumbers as just a nice addition to your salad on a hot summer day, this vegetable contains Vitamin K and silica, which promote good bone health, help to prevent blood clotting, and work to improve hair and nail health.

After you enjoy a cool cucumber salad, it's time for dessert. Why not feast on raspberries?! Did you know there are three types of raspberries? Red, yellow/gold, and black. And their benefits are quite extensive. They help with brain function, diabetes management, healthy digestion, and help to prevent cardiovascular and eye disease.

Save the date! Join the Charlton Garden Club on Monday, July 13, for its next meeting. Lucy Smith will address the topic of permaculture. You are invited to come and hear this expert talk about this nature-inspired design system for sustainable living. Social time begins at 6:30 pm. Meet garden club members and learn more about the organization. The meeting starts at 7 pm and takes place in the Community Room inside the Charlton Public Library at 40 Main Street in Charlton. Light refreshments will be served.

The Charlton Garden Club invites you to its next meeting on Monday, July 13, when Lucy Smith will educate attendees on permaculture. The meeting takes place in the Community Room inside the Charlton Public Library. Socialization starts at 6:30 pm and the meeting begins at 7 pm.

According to Wikipedia, permaculture "is an approach to land management and settlement design that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems."

Lucy Smith, MCH, serves as VP of Sales and Design at Reimagined Roots, an organic landscaping company. After studying permaculture in Thailand, Hawaii, Costa Rica, she became determined to re-engage people with indigenous wisdom of growing food and caring for the community.

The meeting is open to the public. We hope you can join us to learn more about this fascinating and timely topic.

What flower comes to mind when you think of June? Why, roses, of course! And the color and number have special meanings of their own. Red is obviously for romantic love while pink means gratitude and yellow stands for friendship. White represents purity, orange exudes enthusiasm, and peach stands for sincerity. Lovely lavender embodies enchantment. Those who receive a single rose know that the giver was smitten at first sight. But if you are lucky enough to receive 108 roses, you can be sure the gift will be followed by a proposal. Or say they say!
