Here’s a program in Indiana that helps replace invasive trees with native ones! Love to see it! What do we think?? 😍

The DNR Community & Urban Forestry program and Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (NIRPC) are excited to offer the 2026 Invasive Tree Replacement program in northwest Indiana! Property owners who show proof of removal of an invasive tree on their private property within Lake, Porter, and LaPorte counties are eligible to receive one free native tree at a replacement tree distribution event. Acceptable species for removal include: Callery/Bradford pear (Pyrus calleryana), Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima), Burning Bush (Euonymous alatus), and any woody plant listed by the Indiana Invasive Species Council (Invasive Plants).
The replacement tree distribution event will be held at Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (6100 Southport Rd, Portage, IN 46368) on:
• Friday, May 1, 2026 from 4-6pm and
• Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 10am-noon
