Carpenter deserves another term
I write this letter as a concerned voter in Chesapeake Beach who is fortunate enough to have discovered Southern Maryland, the best kept secret in the greater Washington, D.C., area, a decade ago. Thanking you for this opportunity for free discourse, I am proud to be a part of this special community in which we can best be served by working together toward best practices for the greater good in our community.
In my opinion, that greater good will not be accomplished by unsubstantiated personal attacks and mudslinging, such as a recent letter to the editor [“Gambling could be tied to campaign financing”] in The Calvert Recorder by Joe Johnson, who focuses on Councilman Bob Carpenter as part of the “lackluster performance” of the town council.
I invite you voters to consider a few of Bob Carpenter’s activities in the community as an example of the integrity of this candidate for town council as you approach the polls on Nov. 6:
He led the effort to lower the tax rate from $0.37 per $100 of assessed value to $0.36 per $100 of assessed value; led the effort to take over management of the wastewater treatment plant, which saves our citizens more than $50,000 per year; and led the committee to build a skateboard park for the youth of our community.
In addition to attesting to his leadership role as councilman, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Bob Carpenter on the Arts Council of Calvert County, and in bringing the trolley from concept to reality. Should a complete list of Bob Carpenter’s volunteer community activities be compiled, I suspect that it would reach from one end of Calvert County to the other.
Join me in supporting Bob’s best practices for Chesapeake Beach with your vote on Nov. 6 and leave all unsubstantiated personal attacks and mudslinging to the elementary school playground, where the teacher can send the children to the principal for appropriate punishment.

Carpenter is a dedicated councilman
I strongly endorse the re-election of Bob Carpenter to the Chesapeake Beach Town Council.
As a community member who attends the town council meetings regularly, I have seen firsthand how Bob not only conducts himself, but how prepared he is for each meeting. It is evident to me that Bob has not only done a great deal of research on each issue that will appear on the agenda, but is also prepared to discuss each issue and ask the probing questions. He is truly our advocate on the council. If Bob thinks an issue is not worthy, will cost too much or just doesn’t make sense, he does not hesitate to speak out. I just wish we had more people like Bob, not just in local public office, but in public office in general.
And, as a community member who attends the various events sponsored by our town, I always see Bob there as an enthusiastic supporter. Bob has always sponsored a table at the Easter Festival and always has candy for our children at the Haunted Water Park. Just recently, he attended the Beach Buccaneers Homecoming Rally — despite the fact that his kids are 37 and 40 and were never Buccaneers.
Also, there are some things you probably don’t know. Bob and his late wife, Pat, supported Beach Elementary School, despite their kids being grown. They have always donated to the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department and to the American Legion. Bob and Pat never expected any recognition. They have always done it because they knew it was the right thing to do.
Bob’s dedication to our community shines through in all he does.
If you are a resident of Chesapeake Beach and you haven’t registered to vote, you still have time. For details, see the town website, www.chesapeake-beach.md.us. Please join me in supporting Bob Carpenter for Chesapeake Beach Town Council on Nov. 6, 2012.

Carpenter should be re-elected
Bob Carpenter has been a friend and colleague for many years. We served together on the Zoning Appeals Board of Chesapeake Beach before Bob was elected to the town council. We soon discovered that our decision making on the board was based on what was best for Chesapeake Beach and for the applicants. Politics was never an issue. Bob has continued to do what is best for the citizens of Chesapeake Beach and never lets politics get in the way of sound decisions.
Last November, my wife, Barbara La Heist, passed away after a long battle with cancer. Earlier this year, when Pat passed away, I shared Bob’s feelings. I am happy that he has chosen to run for re-election to the town council, and I gladly support him.

Town should re-elect Carpenter
I strongly support Bob Carpenter for re-election. Bob works tirelessly on behalf of genuine progress in our community. He has served our town for the last four years. He led the effort to reduce property taxes and take over management of the wastewater treatment plant, headed up a committee to build a skateboard park for the youth and continues to fight against raising utility rates. He also supports social justice throughout the town.
Over the years, I have come to understand how important the role of our town council members is in helping citizens to address neighborhood and community issues, both small and large. There could not be a better person to serve the citizens of Chesapeake Beach as a council representative than Bob. His hard work for the town and its citizens, his visibility and his accessibility to all of us make him an ideal councilperson.
I believe Bob Carpenter is exactly the kind of town council member that we need in these hard times. I support his re-election, and I urge the community to vote for him this November.

Keeping Carpenter on council is good for town
The upcoming elections are important to our community, and I want to express my support for Bob Carpenter, who is running for re-election to the Chesapeake Beach Town Council. We all have reasons for voting for an individual. The following are my key reasons: integrity — I want someone who is honest, has no hidden agenda and will equally represent all the people of Chesapeake Beach; intelligence — someone with the ability to obtain and recognize facts, analyze the facts and make well balanced and informed decisions; team player — someone who will listen to all sides of an issue and will work for what is best for the people of Chesapeake Beach; and proactive — someone who has the ability to identify problems and knows how to implement decisions and get things done.
Bob has demonstrated these attributes ever since he arrived in Chesapeake Beach. There are a number of projects that Bob helped with in the community, including helping me and my wife raise money for the Bayside unit of the Boys & Girls Club. During the last four years on the town council, Bob led the efforts to reduce our property taxes, take over management of the wastewater treatment plant and revise the Election Code, and has worked hard on controlling our utility rates. Bob is definitely a hands-on manager who works for the people.
It is in the best interest of the citizens of Chesapeake Beach to keep Bob Carpenter on the town council, and I encourage you to vote for him.
