Portable air conditioning wasn't a thing until 1938 when Frederick Jones invented one, allowing food to transported without spoiling. This was significant during World War 2 in getting blood and medicine to battlefields and army hospitals.
Originally a self-taught auto mechanic, Frederick Jones served in World War 1 as an electrician, afterwards building a radio transmitter for his town's new radio station, inventing a device to combine sound with movies, opening Thermo King after his portable air conditioner invention.
He had 61 patents, 40 were refrigeration, and others included a portable x-ray machine, ticket dispenser, two-cycle engine, and sound equipment.
