Jeff Tweedy once said that the greatest feeling comes from creating something that wasn't there 10 minutes ago. If you agree with this notion and like to write, come join us every 2nd Saturday of the month* from 1-3PM at the Harold Washington Library to push ourselves to create something new. We'll be on the fifth floor of the Harold Washington at tables next to the escalators. I'll have a sign po
sted as a beacon. This writers group is much different than just meeting up and chatting about what you've already written. Instead, you'll be creating original stories here. Our process is part scavenger hunt, part mystery and part creativity. The plan: At the H.W. Library, each writer will search throughout the heaps of shelves to find a book of some kind. Just one that calls out to them for whatever reason. Once found, they will bring it back to the group and swap texts with the other writers. Each writer will then create a piece of writing based on one of the found texts--be it on plumbing, ornithology or Katy Perry. You're the creator. The text is your unpredictable starting point. We'll then share out (if so desired) and give copious high-5's and chest bumps, etc. I'm by no means a professional writer, just somebody who wants to create something new and give myself and others a fun way to do so. Come join! Bring a pen and paper if you'd like or some will be provided. Also, a big thanks to Grey Wolfe Publishing for supporting our writers! Learn more about them at www.greywolfepublishing.com
*due to scheduling conflicts we'll sometimes meet the first or third of the month. Maybe even the fourth. What?!? Madness, I know. Check this page for monthly details and updates.
