I just couldn't resist adding garland to Seed & Sow Gardens headquarter's front porch since I had so much joy creating the wreathes!

Our first Christmas in upstate S.C. is really feeling special.

I finally made time to make a wreathe for Seed and Sow Gardens headquarters, after spending so much time doing the same for my client.

It's definitely more whimsical and non- traditional compared to what my client asked for, and I love it.

All foliage was hand - foraged from my clients' property.

I'm super pleased that I found magnolia seed pods to use as an alternative to the standard pine cones, though one pine cone does adorn the creation.

My client likes the traditional greenery wreathes, and most all of the foliage was sourced on the property.
The garland, however, was purchased, and I added the foraged holly berries.
I used Pine, Juniper, Holly, Magnolia, Boxwood, and Fir.
Happy Christmas!

This past weekend, for four glorious days, I had the amazing opportunity to design and plant 20+ Autumn inspired containers for a magnificent estate, set on 65 acres against the foothills of South Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. The land, the owners, and their staff were all so lovely!

The experience was above and beyond my wildest dreams, and I hope I get another invite! 🤗

Several of the designs are in matching pairs, and there are many more containers filled with evergreens, pansies and mums.

This series will be showcased in two posts, so be sure to check out the other one!

New Designs!

The front house installation will begin towards the end of this week.

The plants have already been procured except for the Blue Arrow Juniper, Juniperus scopulorum, and the Boxwood 'Golden Triumph', Buxus microphylla

Snowdrop bulbs, Galanthus nivalis, will arrive in the mail soon!

Christmas Tree Ferns, Polystichum acrostichoides, will fill in areas below the stairs and behind the deciduous Spirea, Spiraea japonica, with the Boxwood, Junipers, and bulbs filling out the rest of the space.

The entirely new garden zone will showcase two amazingly beautiful 'Mandarin Lights' Azaleas, Pink Muhly Grass, purple and chartreuse Heuchera, Hellebores, Blue Fescue and more Snowdrops.

The small fountain garden design was created for a client in Unicoi.

She desired a very full, lush, and colorful pollinator garden to compliment her low maintenance, no turf front yard, so she may enjoy butterflies and bees as she relaxes on her porch

There is so much to love about the plants I choose for her!
Blue Star Creeper ground cover,
'Aurea Marginata' Daphne, pink Muhly Grass, Shasta Daisies, Heuchera, Variegated Liriope, 'Cavatine' Pieris, Purple Coneflower, 'Firewitch ' Pink Dianthus, Blue Fescue, and
Candytuuft.

Decorative containers can showcase seasonal floral arrangements such as Coleus and ornamental grasses and cabbage for this autumn.

It's taken 3 seasons and 3 trips from California to TN to finalize this garden.

Where once was a gnarly winter bed of w**ds with no defined borders then became an unattractive and overgrown spring w**d zone.(see the last photos in this sequence)

My dedication to designing a low maintenance, four seasons garden for this sunny slope, and also many, MANY hours of getting dirty has finally paid off!

Now, when family sits on the porch for meals, puppy entertainment, and corn- hole championships in the driveway, they have a garden with year-round color to enhance the Appalachian views.

There's 'Purple Palace' Heuchera, Dwarf 'Crimson Fire' Loropetalum, Variegated Liriope, and Senecio cineraria 'Silver Dust' to complement the deciduous Spiraea japonica 'Gold Mound' and the evergreen Juniperus, (which I shaped quite nicely at the base).

I'm really excited to share this renovation!

My clients literally have 16 acres which includes wild blackberries to harvest when they choose to do so. Therefore, eradicating them and the invasive vines and w**ds from this curb- appeal driveway garden was a must!

What was my original inspirational jumping point? I made the decision to add three varieties of blueberries to replace the overabundance of wild thorny blackberries! And then, my creative juices really started to flow.

Being that it is the first garden zone one comes upon as you approach the house, via a long tree-lined driveway, I am thrilled with the results!!

Several natives were planted, including Echinacea purpurea, white and pink Turtle Heads (Chelone lyonii), Thimblew**d (Anemone canadensis), Blue Eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium), St. John's Wort and several varieties of milkw**d and salvia, too.

Evergreens will add winter interest and color all year around, such as Heuchera 'Plum Pudding', Ajuga 'Burgundy Glow' (an excellent spreading ground cover), Variegated Carex grass and Leocothe fontanesiana (also a native).

I added even more pollinators that attract butterflies and hummingbirds such as Asclepias tuberose, 'Butterfly W**d'.

There's so much to love about this garden!

Dianthus 'Fruit Punch' with its striking fuschia pink flowers and silvery blue foliage accented by the feathery pinky plumes of Eragrostis spectabilis 'Love Grass' add even more texture and color to this re-invented rock garden.

Now....on the look out for an evergreen climbing vine for the fence.
Could Star Jasmine make it through the winter?

The last three pictures showcase what was originally there prior to the renovation.

Blackberries, honeysuckle, grape vines be gone!
I'm so excited to transform this newly cleared area into a breathtaking native garden!

This is the first established garden zone you see as you reach the top of the tree-lined driveway on the way up to the main house.

It was inundated with blackberries, and the honeysuckle and the wild grape vines were torturing the Althea tree and fence line, sprawling into everything!

The daylilies can now be showcased on the slope and a path was cleared for the ease of harvesting the black raspberries.

Plant shopping tomorrow!
Hooray!
