Veterans Benefits
Here is some information for Aid and Attendance Benefit for Veterans and Spouses. I have been helping my dad apply for different benefits since he is a Veteran. Almost a year long process he has been approved for some things. Little did we know, he would have qualified for these benefits years ago. I have so many mixed emotions about this, angry, frustration, aggravation, sadden and many more. These men and women fight/have fought for our freedom. Complete strangers risk/ed their lives, died, became disabled, suffer from PTSD, have mental illness and so much more so you and I can have freedom in the USA. We have so may Veterans in need, homeless, hungry, broke, hurt, lonely and alienated. Our "wonderful" government wants to help elsewhere and not help our Veterans or they want to make it so difficult to apply for these benefits, most of them give up. It's sad!
A Veteran shared his friend's story with my Dad and I while we were at the clinic in Monroe, not too long ago. He explained how his friend, another Veteran, applied for disability benefit and he was denied. He appealed, lost. Reapplied, denied, appealed, Reapplied, had cancer and was awarded the benefit. This was years of the Veteran fighting for the benefit. Unfortunately the Veteran passed away before he received his first check. The man telling us the story said the surviving spouse went to check the mail and first check was in the mail. Just heartbreaking! The information is below.

If you are a war era veteran or surviving spouse and need ongoing care services, you may be eligible to receive financial aid from the Department of Veteran Affairs to help cover this cost.
This is a tax-free benefit called Aid and Attendance.
The Benefit was designed to provide financial assistance to help offset the cost of long-term health care.
The Aid and Attendance (A&A) Pension provides benefits for veterans and surviving spouses who require the regular attendance of another person to assist in at least two of the daily activities of living such as eating, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring.
You DO NOT have to require assistance with all of these. There simply needs to be adequate medical evidence that you cannot function completely on your own.
The benefit can be used for:
1) Day Care Centers
2) In-Home Caregiver or Professional Home
Health Care (Nursing)
3) Residential Care Homes (Board and Care)
4) Assisted Living Communities
5) Nursing Homes if not already receiving Medicaid/Medi-Cal
