Do you know about the popular grape variety that was cultivated right here in Delaware, OH? Check this out - 🍇

The modern-day Arts Castle in Delaware, Ohio, serves as the direct physical and historical link to the cultivation of the Delaware grape. The grand Romanesque Revival mansion at 190 W. Winter Street was originally built in 1854 as the private home of George W. Campbell, the premier horticulturist who spent decades perfecting and popularizing the variety.

The extensive land surrounding the "castle" once housed Campbell's commercial greenhouses and test vineyards. It was on this very soil that he extensively cross-bred, propagated, and shipped millions of Delaware grapevines around the globe, helping it achieve international status.

Living History: The botanical heritage remains alive on the property. An arbor growing authentic Delaware grapes still stands on the grounds. Additionally, visitors can see a massive, ancient ginkgo tree at the front of the property that Campbell brought back from a diplomatic trip to China and planted in 1850.

The grapes are still very popular in Japan and Korea, where they've been used to make w**e and eat fresh. There are some ripe ones at the Arts Castle right now, go try them! 💜🍂

On your walks, look closely at the trees. Many mature fruit trees are producing right now, and most of the time people don't harvest the fruit. You can help out a neighbor by asking to take some home! It's a win-win 🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐🍐

Mums aren’t the only way to get that rich fall look 🍂 A few plants I like for keeping beds interesting as summer starts winding down:

💛 Goldenrod and sneezeweed can bring strong late-season color when plenty of earlier flowers are already fading.

🌸 Coneflowers and garden phlox may still be putting on a show depending on the variety, climate, and how far along the season is.
🌾 Pink muhly grass is all about texture, those airy pink plumes can completely change the feel of a fall border.
🍁 Bergenia and foamy bells add interest through their foliage too, especially as cooler weather starts bringing out deeper tones.
💜 Lilyturf can add another little flush of purple while keeping that grassy texture near the front of a bed.
I love mixing flowers, foliage, and grasses in fall instead of relying on one big block of mums every year.
