Pale cabinetry, heavy grey veining through the counters, dark cage pendants in a row over the island. A quiet palette that would hold up on its own.

The sink is the one departure. Hammered metal with an apron front, sitting where most kitchens put something smooth and white. It takes the light differently from everything around it.

Personal instead of predictable.

The best home bars don't read as equipment. They read as cabinetry that happens to pour.

Two taps rise beside a drip tray set flush into the stone. The cooler underneath wears a panel cut from the same stained wood as the drawers, so nothing metal breaks the run. Glass-front uppers on either side are lit from within, and the middle bay stays open so not everything hides behind doors. The granite doesn't stop at the counter. It climbs the full height of the alcove.

Every piece has a reason for being there.

The coolest room in the house in August is the one downstairs. Finishing it is the easy call. What goes in it is the part worth thinking about.

This basement got a full bar. Wide wood planks wrap the front, a thick counter runs the whole length of it, and copper pendants hang from a ceiling painted black so the light stays where it's wanted. Behind that sits cabinetry and dark stone holding the sink and the storage. A deep blue wall at the far end keeps it from going flat.

Nothing flashy, just done right.

A room finished in white gets its warmth from somewhere else. Here it comes from overhead, in a wood beam stained to match the trim.

It ties the ceiling to the floor and the doorways without adding a single color to the palette.

One intentional feature can change everything.

A statement accent needs room to be loud. Here it's blue and gold tile from Italy, set on the diagonal behind the range and given a border of its own so it reads as one piece instead of a run of pattern. Everything around it stays quiet: white subway across the rest of the backsplash, cream cabinetry, grey granite with real movement in it.

The hood carries the same finish, which keeps that whole wall reading as one surface with the panel set into it.

Personal instead of predictable.

A second story addition works when it stops looking like one. Rooflines have to line up, siding and trim carry across the whole facade, and the proportions of the new floor sit right against what was already standing. Get any of that wrong and it shows from the street.

Look at this one from the curb and it reads as a single house. Nothing announces where the work happened.

Designed to feel like it's always belonged here.

Two-tone cabinets work best when the split has a reason behind it. Wood along the base grounds the room and brings in warmth that paint alone cannot. Light above keeps the sightline clear.

This one breaks the upper bank with an open niche, so a long wall of doors has somewhere to breathe.

Personal instead of predictable.

A fireplace can be the reason a room works, or it can be a feature nobody uses. This one anchors an entire wall in Westerville: brick floor to ceiling, open shelving on both sides, and a counter at the end with a sink and space for coffee.

The arched openings up top are what keep it from reading as new. Straight lines everywhere else, curves above, and the built-ins start to look like they came with the house.

Designed to feel like it's always belonged here.

Dark cabinets set the tone for a whole bathroom. Once that call is made, the rest of the palette has something to answer to. This Granville project pairs them with warm paint, a pale veined countertop, and mirrors lit from the edges so the glow lands at face level instead of overhead.

The storage tower matches the vanity door for door, which is why it reads as built in rather than furniture pushed against a wall.

One intentional feature can change everything.

The chandelier sets the tone in this kitchen—modern, bold, and unmistakably the centerpiece. Its scale and texture bring contrast to the surrounding tile, cabinetry, and stone, tying the room together without competing for attention.
