Honoring Christian Hardin, Matt Vanarsdale, Dave Taylor, David Medley Jr., and Evan Callahan

Join us in celebrating our 2026 BX Craftsmanship Award winners for their exceptional work on the modernization of Rhodes Tower in Downtown Columbus!

As part of this major project, our team completed approximately 264 electrical panel replacements—all performed during off-hours to ensure the building remained fully operational by Monday morning. The scope also included radio room and louver lighting upgrades, elevator distribution renovations, first-floor enhancements, and a high-profile hearing room transformation featuring 86-inch displays, a 139-inch projection screen, integrated microphone systems, and touch-panel AV controls.

Working within an existing, fully operational high-rise required exceptional planning, precision, and adaptability. The unique conditions of the building called for a combination of off-site preparation and skilled field fabrication. Custom phenolic tags were produced to provide clear, durable identification throughout the facility, while conduit sleeves and select bends were prepared in advance to support an efficient installation. On-site, the team field-measured, bent, and adjusted conduit to work around existing infrastructure and the challenges of an occupied building—ensuring every installation was aligned, clean, and built to last.

From major infrastructure upgrades to the smallest details, this project reflects the craftsmanship and dedication of everyone involved—from the team in the field to those supporting them behind the scenes.

With an Electrical Engineering degree and more than a decade of experience in the electrical industry, Luis is helping our teams continue to sharpen their skills through practical, hands-on training.

Whether it's hosting classes in our training facility, leading prefab workshops, or coming directly to the jobsite for on-site instruction, Luis is focused on building confidence through real-world learning.

We're proud to share that our team received the 2026 BX Safety Innovation Award for the development of our Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) Training Station.

This project came together through the efforts of several teams across Mid-City. Our Safety Team developed the concept, Annie Bailey created the 3D model that allowed our Prefabrication team to build it, and Austin Nichols worked with our vendors to secure donated materials.

The result is a portable, hands-on training station that bridges the gap between classroom theory and field application. Built on a hand truck for easy transport, this fully functional 120V electrical panel allows apprentices to practice proper energy isolation procedures in a safe, controlled environment.

Congratulations to everyone who played a part in bringing this idea to life, and thank you to the The Builders Exchange of Central Ohio for recognizing the value of practical, hands-on safety training!

Project Spotlight!

Mid-City successfully completed the electrical installation for Canal Winchester's 30,000 sq. ft. new-build library, delivering a comprehensive scope of work to support the facility’s operational needs and architectural vision.

The project included the installation of interior and exterior lighting, fire alarm systems, electrical gear, site lighting, rooftop mechanical equipment connections, and underground electrical infrastructure. Each element was strategically coordinated to ensure seamless integration across all building systems while maintaining efficiency throughout construction.

A key feature of this project was the installation of specialty lighting fixtures, which required a heightened level of precision due to their complexity and unique design specifications. These installations demanded detailed planning, exact alignment, and strict adherence to project specifications to achieve both optimal functionality and the intended architectural aesthetic.
