Customer had an unlicensed contractor install a new water heater. This particular unit tripped the breaker and would not function.

Here's the issues.
▪️Upper and lower element cover facing the wall, not able to be serviced.
▪️Boiler Drain against the wall, not able to be drained or flushed.
▪️T&P tied into the pan line.

Trauth Electric made electrical repairs before we came out.
▪️No Electrical Disconnect
▪️Incorrect wiring to water heater

Diagnosis determined the lower element was damaged, this is usually caused by powering the water heater before filling and bleeding the air from the tank.

We also turned the tank to gain access to the element covers and boiler drain. Corrected the T&P line with a dedicated line made of the correct piping.

We still have a couple minor details to button up. This could have been prevented by hiring a Licensed Plumber and Electrician.

We are seeing a lot of error codes with Tankless water heaters right now.

Most of these codes are the result of poor or no maintenance.

Tankless units should be flushed annually, to prevent scale buildup in critical components and keep the unit operating optimally.

We have cold weather approaching. While during the day we will see above freezing temperatures, at night our water lines can be exposed to freezing.

Here are a few recommendations.
▪️Cover outdoor faucets
▪️Cover your irrigation backflow devices
▪️Drip cold & hot on faucets
▪️Insulate exposed exterior piping
▪️Leave cabinets open under sinks on exterior walls.

💧If you have a tankless water heater located on a exterior wall, please drip your hot faucet, do not unplug or turn the breaker off to the tankless. They have built in freeze protection. For interior and attic units follow the same procedure.

💧Tank type water heaters can be dripped without shutting off gas or power as well.
