It's that time neighbors, brush pick up is happening soon (26th is set out) and with that comes alot of poor tree work. Be on the lookout for people over pruning your trees by taking too much (over 1/3 of the tree) or lions-tailing the branches ("excessive thinning or removal of the interior branches, leaving most of the foliage and canopy on the branch ends, creating an appearance similar to a lion's tail") and look out for carrot topping palm trees as it is unhealthy for the tree and can overstress the palm.

If you need your trees trimmed before brush pick up is a good time to do so as I have discounted prices.

Hello neighbors, here at Jake's Tree Service, we try and practice proper pruning techniques. For fan palms, this means not over pruning them. The scientifically accepted method for proper pruning is called the 3 to 9 technique (shown below). The primary reason to prune your palm is the removal of dead/dying fronds. Palm trees need the live fronds for photosynthesis, which is how they produce food. Over pruning, for example, hurricane pruning or rooster tailing your palm, can actually be harmful for trees during a hurricane and takes away food and nutrients from your tree.
