This was a quite the project!

-Unfortunately another contractor framed around this fireplace with wood.

-Fortunately we caught it just before the tile was installed.

-We removed all the combustible framing where it shouldn’t be and framed it with metal studs.

-After that we installed all the tile, relined the flue with stainless steel, parged the smoke chamber, and installed a top mount damper.

There’s something especially rewarding about restoring an older chimney the right way.

We recently wrapped up this chimney restoration in Carmel, where preserving the home’s original character was just as important as improving its safety and longevity.

To achieve the best match possible, we sourced 100+ year-old reclaimed brick and rebuilt the chimney from the roofline up. We also replaced deteriorated brick, poured a new overhanging concrete crown to better protect the chimney from water damage, and installed new counter flashing to ensure a long-lasting, watertight seal.

Inside the chimney, we installed a 20-foot stainless steel liner for the fireplace, professionally parged the smoke chamber to improve performance and safety, and installed an aluminum liner kit for the appliance flue.

The finished product not only looks like it belongs on the home—it will provide years of reliable service.

One of the things we’re most proud of is that we completed this project with exceptional quality and efficiency while saving the homeowner thousands of dollars compared to proposals from some of the larger companies in the area. Before & After: Leaky Chimney Removal & Venting Upgrade

This customer had been battling water intrusion for years. The old masonry chimney had been reflashed multiple times, but the leaks kept coming back. Upon inspection, the chimney was severely deteriorated and allowing water into the home.

Today we completely tore the brick chimney down to the roofline and installed an aluminum liner kit to properly connect the basement appliances. We then terminated the system with new B-vent through the roof, complete with new flashing and shingles for a watertight installation.

Now the homeowner can rest easy knowing the source of the leaks has been eliminated and their venting system is safe, functional, and protected from the elements.

🔨🏠 Recent Chimney Repair Project Completed! 🏠🔨

We recently completed a chimney repair where we removed the deteriorated crown and installed a brand-new wash crown to properly shed water away from the chimney structure. While on site, we also tuck pointed the stonework where needed to address mortar deterioration and help protect the chimney from further water intrusion.

Another transformation completed by Chimney Swift Home Repair!

We recently removed old, weathered cedar siding and trim, installed a quality house wrap water-resistant barrier, and finished the home with brand-new cedar siding and trim for a fresh, long-lasting look.

This project came with its challenges. We battled through some of the most oppressive heat and humidity of the summer, but we stayed committed to doing the job right rather than rushing through it.

🔨 Chimney Rebuild 🧱

We recently completed a full chimney rebuild on a previously painted brick chimney, along with new shingles, flashing, and a code-required cricket.

🧱 Why we don’t recommend painting brick chimneys

This project is a perfect example of what can happen when brick is sealed with paint. While it may look good short-term, paint traps moisture inside the masonry. Over time this leads to:

* 🧊 Freeze–thaw damage in colder months
* 🧱 Spalling and surface breakdown of the brick
* 💧 Moisture retention and hidden deterioration within the chimney structure
* ⚠️ Accelerated mortar joint failure

Brick is designed to breathe. Once it’s sealed, that natural moisture movement is blocked, and the chimney starts breaking down from the inside out.

🏗️ What we did on this project

* Full chimney teardown and rebuild
* Removal of deteriorated painted brick
* Installation of new step flashing and counter flashing tied into the roof system
* New shingles installed around chimney tie-in areas
* Added a code-required chimney cricket to properly divert water around the uphill side of the chimney

🧭 Why the cricket matters

A chimney cricket (or saddle) is required by code on larger chimneys to prevent water from pooling behind the structure. Without it, that area becomes a common leak point and can cause long-term roof and decking damage.
