The first mini harvest of the season!!! Always such an exciting time! Looking at these beautiful flowers grown in my backyard, I thought that I’d share why it’s so important to support local cut flower farmers!
When you pick up a bouquet from your local flower grower, you’re doing more than just brightening your home—you’re making a powerful choice for your health, your community, and the planet.
Here’s what most people don’t know: over 80% of cut flowers sold in the U.S. are imported, mostly from South America. These flowers are often grown with heavy pesticide use, dipped in chemical preservatives, and flown thousands of miles before they ever reach your hands. The environmental impact is staggering—carbon emissions, worker exploitation, and toxic chemicals that would never be legal on U.S. farms.
💀 Many imported blooms are not safe to touch, smell, or compost, especially around kids or pets. And yet, they’re marketed as “fresh.”
Now contrast that with local, organically grown flowers from small-scale growers like Petals of Dominion:
🌿 Grown without harmful chemicals
💧 Picked fresh, usually within 24 hours of sale
🐝 Grown with pollinators, not pesticides, in mind
🤝 Supports your local economy, not overseas corporations
❤️ Grown with love, not factory conditions
When you shop local, you’re supporting more than just pretty petals. You’re investing in clean soil, healthy air, ethical labor, and a future where beauty doesn’t come at a hidden cost.
✨ Let’s bring the flower industry back down to earth—one local bouquet at a time.
