Here are some helpful best practice tips to consider when looking for a lawn care service this spring
1. Insurance – It is always a good to idea to ask to see a copy of the insurance so be sure the lawn care professional is truly covered. A lot of companies advertise that they are insured but this is not always true. Best practice is to see for yourself so you know that your property is covered by any potential damages because let’s be honest, no matter how professional and safe a company may be, accidents can still happen.
2. Equipment – Residential yards typically require smaller equipment due to the size of the lot. You likely would not want big zero turn and riding mowers which will leave deep tracks in your yard and tear up the turf. Additionally, although an inspection of equipment is not necessary, you want to be sure that the lawn crew has up to date equipment which will not be leaking fluids all over your driveway and yard. Same thing applies to vehicles, you wouldn’t want an old rusty pickup truck leaking all over your street every time they come to service your yard.
3. Contracts – Some clients require a signed contract to do business with you. This can not only be an inconvenience but also it locks you into a year long agreement to continue use of their services for the year. Imagine signing a contract and then realizing you are not happy with the service of your yard but being unable to break the contract for the year; not fun. If you would prefer to sign a contract, be sure to do your research and compare a few companies before deciding.
4. Services Offered: Talk to your lawn care provider before hiring for information on all the services offered. It can be annoying to have to hire one person for lawn care, another for hedge trimming and yet another for mulching and bed maintenance.
5. Customer Service – The last but certainly not least item to consider when hiring lawn care professionals is customer service. You want to be sure that your concerns will be heard and addressed in a timely and professional manner. Many large companies might struggle with customer service due to their size and limited capacity to address customers. Smaller businesses may only be focused on a quick service and not address or answer customer concerns. The level of customer service can be difficult to gauge when initially hiring a company, but you may be able to get a good idea based on reviews of the business and the timely and courteous manner in which they address your initial questions and concerns.
