We have a great deal of experience in all aspects of design and installation of energy efficient geothermal systems and can answer any questions you may have. We can also assist a client's other contractors during any part of the planning process. We want to make sure our clients have the most energy efficient geothermal system to fit their needs.
How We Do It
Colorado Geothermal Drilling operates a specially designed and customized drill mounted on a skid loader with tracks. Each piece of equipment has been tailored by CGD to meet our high quality standards and to fully maximize the efficiency of our operations. Because of this compact and efficient set-up, we are able to get into dense spots typically not accessible to other drilling companies, thus making geothermal a possibility for more people.
We specialize in providing vertical loop installations, typically drilling 200-400 foot wells. The number of wells to be drilled and loops installed is determined by performing a heat load calculation. This information provides the number of BTUs required to heat and cool the structure. After a heat load calculation is done, we can provide an economic analysis which shows the client how much they will save over the life of the system.

Colorado Geothermal Drilling has successfully designed and completed over 500 projects throughout the Front Range, both residential and commercial, new construction and retrofits of existing structures. With our vast knowledge of geothermal design and installation we can provide customers with valuable information, answering any questions, and providing the best energy efficient system to fit the clients' needs. The combination of this equipment and our personnel allow us to successfully and repeatedly complete numerous drilling projects along the Front Range.
Meet Our Team
Dan Rau has a degree Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Because of Dan's engineering background, he has a comprehensive understanding of geothermal systems and can help our clients to design the system most appropriate for their heating and cooling needs. Dan grew up on a farm in the Midwest and has a passion for enhancing and building more efficient, safe, and streamlined equipment. This in turn makes our installations require less equipment and manpower. His engineering background and equipment design and operation make him a rare occurrence in the geothermal industry.
Kari Rau executes the marketing and advertising strategy for Colorado Geothermal Drilling and collaborates in all aspects of managing a green, family-owned, small business. She is on the Steering Committee for the Brighton Business Builders, is a member of IGSHPA and The Greater Brighton Chamber of Commerce, and often writes about geothermal and renewable energy content for media publications. She also manages the Colorado Geothermal Drilling Blog where you can find information on the installation process and what’s new. She worked as an ATC in sports medicine before joining Dan and championing their renewable business.
Nick Rau is our Geothermal Field Chief and leads our onsite geothermal loop field installation. He manages all drilling and grouting operations, and assists our team with optimizing our quality and efficiency installation standards. He is a IGSHPA Accredited Installer and licensed to install geothermal loop fields by the State of Colorado.

Colorado Geothermal Drilling is a member of the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA), IGSHPA Accredited Installers, and are permitted to install geothermal by the State of Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Division of Water Resources.
