Good morning! We hope everyone is safe and dry after the winds last night. As power is reconnected please take some time to make sure all electronics and other devices are working properly.

During wind storms like last night there are often many power surges before power loss which can result in the loss of your electroics including appliances.

When power is restored, that can be your biggest surge of power to your house and is when a lot of damage can be done.

To protect these we recommend having a whole house surge protector installed. Some of you with newer houses may already have one and know the peace of mind that offers during storms.

With all the rain and extreme weather I want to remind people about their outdoor GFCI’s. If they get water or too much moisture in them they can trip. This can cause sections of your house to lose power. If you have part of your house with no power, try resetting your GFCI’s and save the money of having an electrician out. If that doesn’t work, give us a call.

It might also be a good time to redo your outdoor outlet covers. Take a look and make sure they aren’t loose. Make sure the rubber seal part is still intact and doesn’t have a lot of dried out cracking. If you find issues, give us a call and get on our schedule to come out and replace them.

****GFCI are the outlets that have the test/reset buttons on them.. They are usually found in the garage, bathrooms, kitchen, sometimes laundry room or dining room (rare). And of course outside.

With that said if you don’t have a generator, now is the time to start budgeting, planning and scheduling the installation.

Either an automatic which comes on when power is lost, or the manual that you have to start.

Well we aren’t magicians, and we can wire you a generator if you don’t already have one.

Send us an email. Include in that email that you would like either a manual or automatic generator. Also include a picture of your electrical panel with the door open.

Also, if you go with a manual generator you will need to buy the generator and the cord. Here is a ETL certified cord, sufficient for your needs. Home Depot also has ones similar and typically sell out during outages.

Attention! Read until the end, the best part is at the bottom! We’ve been getting a lot of requests for estimates for the following items. So I figured I would post the estimates here.

Manual generator install. This would be to install the manual generator inlet (you must buy the generator and its cord)on the backside of your electrical panel, outside. If you want it located somewhere else the price will increase.

30 amp $895+tax and permit
50 amp $995 +tax and permit

Car charger. This would be to install (customer provided) EV charger within 5 feet of the electrical panel on the same wall. If you want it somewhere else in the garage the price will increase.

Ev hardwired $875+tax and permit

Ev plug-in $1075+tax and permit
Plug in price is more because you need a GFCI breaker which is required by code. Costs roughly $200.

Please be aware, these jobs MUST be PERMITTED. If you are getting estimates make sure permit is included and avoid companies that don’t permit. You will get fined for it later if an inspector comes to your house for something else. We’ve seen it happen and it is unfortunate.

AIR CONDITIONERS-please be aware that hiring and HVAC company does not always mean they have a licensed electrician on their payroll. Always make sure whoever is altering your home electrical system in any way IS a licensed electrician. And make sure a permit is pulled.

You will need both an HVAC company and a licensed electrician.
