Let’s talk maintenance. Two years ago we cut a fuel break in our town to help reduce the chance of fire racing into a large community of homes if it were to occur. It also provides a clear line for retardant to be dropped with no concern of damage. However, that was two years ago and going in yesterday shows that maintenance is key. It wasn’t as full as when we originally did it but regrowth was apparent. Just like you don’t change the oil in the car once-so too does the w**d abatement clearance around a home require it as well

Tire temperature:97.9 degrees, quick drop of eucalyptus-took 45 seconds to burn off leaves and slow down to regular burn. 45 mins later-down to 745 degrees Fahrenheit inside the box and will be burned down to ash in about 1 1/2 hours (entire box). Once burned down, we will hydraulicly lift the box and pull the trailer straight out (so you not run over hot ashes) and cover with dirt to help mix it up to cool it off and ensure no embers remain.

Working on a plan with Fire Marshall on setting up a SOP and lessons learned to set up events in near future.

First follow up to yesterday’s burn. Showed up at site at 730 this morning. All ash was pushed into a pile that will be used to till into the earth to help grow alfalfa for our local high schools agriculture department

Ground temp was 86.7 degrees. We moved the trailer back into place, lowered the box and put dirt all around the “seam” inside to seal it and eliminate air escaping u see the edges.

Will start layering dry brush in the bottom to get the fire started for day two of burning. Stay tuned for more info.

Newest piece of equipment being added to the Alpine/Viejas Fire Safe Council arsenal. Getting trains on how it works and best practices…keep an eye out in the future for potential.

Another project with a beautiful outcome. Sometimes brush clearing is required to maintain defensible space for your neighbor and not just your home.

If your neighbor has their house within 100 feet of your property line-it is your responsibility to maintain their 100 feet on your side of the line. Definitely not always fair but it also works the other way. If your house is within 100 feet of your neighbors property line-it is their responsibility to help maintain your 100. A little crazy but very real.

Don't shoot the messenger. Zone 0 is here and enforceable this year.

We have been working to help our customers understand the zone zero that was coming over the last two years to the best of our knowledge. Now it is here: zone zero is now enforced within the Alpine Fire District. Here is some information to help explain what that means and we do bring it up when we do any work for anyone-especially when utilizing the Sunrise Powerlink Grant. But it is also only a matter of time before the insurance companies potentially pick up on it and enforce it as well.

We are not experts but have a good basis for any questions you may have. Feel free to ask and if we can't answer the question with 100% certainty-we will admit it but also try to find you the answer.
