Sunday Farm Journal:
This was my last official week of the season, even though it looks like we won’t have a frost for a week or so. I got to end on a beautiful note with lots of rich fall colors. I’ve loved using our new heirloom mums this week, even though I am trying not to use too many since it’s their first year in the ground.
My friend Jenn from Humble Home Gardens came to visit yesterday and record some content for her blog which will be published on Tuesday. We talked about cover cropping, compost, and chickens!
The chickens held their annual meeting so I’m sure they will be presenting their findings any day now.
This week ended with a beautiful celebration of life which I was honored to provide flowers for.
Next week will be a little different and I’m looking forward to sharing pictures of an adventure!

Thank you all for a wonderful season! I truly appreciate each and every one of you who supports our small farm!

I had the honor and privilege to flower a celebration of life this weekend. I don’t often get nervous but I wanted these to be perfect for such an important event.

Sunday Farm Journal:
This month is going to be so busy and things are just flying by. I’ve been ripping out some annuals to make room for cover crops to help build up the soil, especially in the pool field where I’m planning on growing all the dahlias next year. The mums are starting to bloom and even though they are a little short this year I am loving the colors.
The chickens were terrified of their pumpkin and didn’t touch it at all. We also found this big frog and gave him a tour of the farm before putting him back in his buckwheat home.

I’m expecting about one more week of flowers, but if these happened to be my last bouquets I’d be okay with that 🍂

Sunday Farm Journal:
The days have been noticeably cooler now and the farm is almost ready for a rest. However, the dahlias are loving the weather and the mums are just starting to bloom. I am loving the rich jewel colors I am using for bouquets and already have more dahlias on my list for next year. I’d love to hear your suggestions or your favorites!
Wildlife on the farm has been preparing for the coming winter. Honey Bunny the chipmunk is looking a little fat and fluffy these days and the garden spiders are making their egg sacks which we will keep watch over until spring. The bees are starting to die off and we’ve been honoring them with little flower memorials.
My cover crops are coming in nicely to protect our soil over the winter and act as mulch in the spring.
The chickens have especially been enjoying their free ranging lately because I let them do whatever they want at this point in the year. I just wish they were a little taller so they could get some of those fat grasshoppers!

CSA week 4….a huge thank you to those of you who participated in my CSAs this year! These bouquets have been my favorites to make and I have enjoyed getting to know each of you. I have so many ideas for my CSA next year which I’ll be sharing over the winter months. In the meantime I am savoring the last few weeks of the season.

Dahlias, sunflowers, and zinnias with a hint of Japanese anemone…what more do you need?
It’ll be a wet one tomorrow but I’ll be dropping these at Corner Grind bright and early!
