Cool history! I don't think I ever knew how it floated.

Venice wasn’t built on solid ground...
It was built on millions of wooden logs driven deep into the seafloor.

Since the year 421 A.D., this floating city has defied both time and engineering logic.
While most cities stand on bedrock or concrete, Venice rises on a forest of waterlogged timber.

Yes — wood.
Specifically, alder trees — a type that doesn’t rot underwater.
When buried in clay and soaked in salty water, this wood doesn’t decay — it petrifies.
Over centuries, it hardens, becoming nearly as tough as stone.

A timeless wonder still holding up an entire city.

St. Mark’s Campanile rests on 100,000 wooden piles.
The grand Basilica della Salute required over a million.

Each pile was hammered in by hand, spaced every half meter, driven up to three meters deep into the seabed.

But why build a city on water?

In the early 5th century, Italy was under attack by barbarian tribes.
Fleeing the invasions, people sought refuge in the muddy, marshy Venetian lagoon.
The water was their wall — a natural fortress that enemies couldn’t cross easily.

And so, between mud and mist, Venice was born.
Not as a city that conquered nature — but as one that coexisted with it.

Venice doesn’t float by magic.
It floats by ingenious design, by necessity,
and by the strength of a story that refuses to sink.

Tim Grager and the subs have Plateau Early Learning Center moving right along! These pictures really excite me. I can't wait for the new siding, doors and paint. I call the paint scheme "Little Yellow Schoolhouse" ❤️ However, I can wait for the mountain of supplies and furnishings waiting in storage for me.

If anyone has a line on a cool looking fallen tree or cool log/branch, hit me up. I am looking for on at least one of the playgrounds!

There is a ton of progress at Plateau Early Learning Center! We have Copper Creek working on the electrical. Treat is working on our HVAC, Watterson is working on the exterior ground work Artisan Plumbing has the underfloor work done. The pour back is done and the floor has been ground smooth.

Tim Grager and Phil Grager are super heros! The have removed the exterior metal sheathing, put up SIP panels, done interior walls, set beams, I joists, framing the ceiling! I know I didn't get everything listed, but it looks super cool in pictures. I can't wait to see it Monday! I am looking forward to getting in on the action.
I thought I had the latest pics on my phone. I will get those up.

Happy Friday! It has been a while since I have posted. We have had a lot of trials ranging from job site issues to health issues. However, we are endeavoring to persevere, and life goes on! The pictures prior to him in the chair are before the hospital.

Some of you know about Tim's health issues. Yes, he is working, but as he says, very slow and methodically. The doctor said if he works 4 hours, he has to rest 3. So he works a little and then sits / works. You know that old saying "you can't keep a good man down!" We appreciate all of your prayers, as we are still trying to get him healthy and figure out what's going on with his heart. Many thanks to brother Phil for being on the job to help and Martin's willingness to come to the site.

On another front, the old metal siding has been removed. The new exterior walls have been framed and sheeted with insulated panels. The interior walls have been marked out and are going up rapidly. I will be there this weekend. I am so excited to see the progress!

I am excited about the backfilling and fence installation.

We are steady gathering furniture! Our fruit trees are growing great and have fruit on them. The foam for the building walls arrived. All of this progress is GREAT!

The walls for expansion done. This past week we got the footing for the fence poured. The plumbers are in working, pouring the walls for the fence and framing for new entry. Hoping to pour back the floor and more excavation. Getting ready to tackle removing the building walls. Lots happening!!

Looking to hire a couple of local dependable laborers to help with concrete pour, framing and completion of building.

Good way to start off Monday! A visit from Corliss Resources Corbett Concrete Pumping! Footing for the fence is poured And Artisan Plumbing is working away. The guys are Almost done finishing off the footing.

Me, trying to get off the plateau and make it to Aberdeen to pick up the kiddos from practice. I'm pretty proud of myself I got twenty five hundred steps in today so far. I am sure my doctor will agree that.
The arm work I did is equivalent to a lot of physical therapy for wrist and my shoulder.💪💪😂😂
