After a big weather event like the recent ice storm causes major outages, SUB and other utilities follow a systematic, industry-standard process to restore power to the greatest number of people as quickly as possible. This includes rerouting power along undamaged circuits while simultaneously making repairs.

Our crews have whittled an outage of more than 11,000 individual services down to fewer than 1,800 using this method, and we're making more progress every day. Thank you for your patience as we move through Springfield, bringing up power!

Does your neighbor have power, but you don’t?

Here’s what to check.

Is there damage to the electrical equipment on your home?
If there has been damage to your weatherhead, mast or meter box, SUB can't reconnect power until it has been repaired. If there is damage, your electrician has special privileges to make repairs.

Have you reset your breakers?
The breakers on your electrical panel might need to be re-set. Turn them all the way off and all the way on – even if they already look like they are on. Some may actually be in a middle position.

And if one side of your street has power and another doesn’t, it’s likely that the different areas are on different parts of our system, with one cleared for power, and the other requiring more work.

Q: Why does my neighbor have power and I don't?

A: The electric system does not always align with streets. Neighbors across the street from each other could be served by a different part of the system that still has power.

If you are the only person without power in your immediate area, you may have damage to the service line that leads to your home. You should check to be sure your weatherhead and meter base didn't sustain damage. Before we can restore service to your home, any damage to equipment on the customer-side (your weatherhead, mast or meter base) must be repaired by an electrician.
