Is your hot water scalding hot or running out quicker than usual?🔥 Your water heater might be trying to tell you something! 🚿 Aside from unit age or increased usage causing you to experience this, the issues could mean your heater's heating elements or thermostat are on the fritz. 🛠️
Electric and gas units both have parts that are the top suspects when we get these kind of calls from homeowners. Unfortunately, we often are called after the unit or parts go out, and the homeowner describes their experience in the recent weeks or months.
What can you do? ✅ Of course we recommend calling a licensed plumber like Dustin Dawson Plumbing, with a trained and knowledgeable team to identify and fix the plumbing problem. ☎️ However, if you want to try troubleshooting yourself, here are a couple things you can try, safely, if you have an electric unit.
1️⃣ Check your breaker/electrical panel to see if the switch connected to the water heater off has been flipped off;
➡️ If it has, flip it back on.
➡️ ➡️ If it hasn’t and is still on, flip the switch marked ‘water heater’ off, wait 30 seconds, then flip back on.
2️⃣ Remove the panel and lift out the insulation covering the (likely upper) thermostat, and click the “Reset” button.
⚠️ Again, we want to emphasize exercising caution if you try these on your own. Even if it temporarily restores your hot water to normal temperatures, it may not be a complete resolution if there is an underlying problem.
