Heads up everyone: it’s going to get below freezing tonight and tomorrow night in the Puget Sound area. Cover any vulnerable or marginally hardy plants! If you have any plants in containers you’re worried about, gather them together for warmth. Don’t worry about the bulbs, they’ll be fine.

Just because it’s fun and technically there are plants in the painting😄

I found a lil’ buddy this morning☺️...I ❤️ seeing salamanders in clients’ yards because they are sensitive creatures so seeing one means the yard is healthy and pesticide-free! Plus they’re just fun to look at.

Mother Nature did not get the memo there’s a pandemic going on. Spring is sprung! Get outside people. I did yesterday and it helped a lot with the feeling of going stir crazy.

The season of mushrooms is wrapping up. So many cool mushrooms in yards right now...but don’t eat ‘em😉🍄

Hope you all are having a fun snow day today! Just a little reminder it’s a good idea to get out there and knock the snow off your evergreen (anything that still has leaves) plants. It is supposed to be below freezing tonight and some of the snow is melting today so that’s a perfect combination for snapping branches. Usually are native conifers like Douglas fir and cedars will be fine but very upright plants such as arborvitae do tend to have branches pull way over in the snow. Even after the snow has melted away, they often don’t recover and will grow “funny” from then on. Evergreen magnolias are especially prone to snapping and it’s a good idea to clear off small Mediterranean plants: rosemary, euphorbia (spurge), lavender, etc. Snow on the ground is fine and insulates from the cold. I clear off my Japanese maples to because they’re branching tends to be really dense and therefore more likely to hold snow and break. Stay warm tonight!
