From veneer to firewood,
When choosing a tree for a permanent tree stand, consider more than just location—consider the tree’s quality and future value. The tree pictured may have once been veneer quality, but now its value has been reduced dramatically, down to firewood.
Whether you’re a private landowner or part of a hunting club, keep the future value of the timber in mind when selecting trees for stands. Poor quality trees work just as well for tree stands.
This type of damage can also occur when temporary stands are left in place year after year instead of being removed seasonally. It always seems like the best trees are the ones chosen for stand locations.
A little planning today can help preserve timber quality and value for decades to come.
