Larry was highly recommended by an aquaintence and just in time. He handled each and every project with perfection--demonstrating a keen ability to work arou

nd professional demands, and the types of problems an old historic mansion is bound to have from time to time. There was nothing he couldn't tackle; his attitude and creativity made it all easier. Over time, when someone works in your home a lot and you have crazy specific design ideas, you get to know them, especially when you are a hands-on design queen. A new kitchenette, two new bathrooms, a living room overhaul, event space renovations, 160-year-old basement maintenance, rebuilding stairs....and all sorts of little things in between, there were plenty of conversations, collaborations, inside jokes, and conversations over lunch. Eventually KarenMarie agreed to go out for a drink and the rest is history. Larry & KarenMarie began an adventure in designing and building as The Craftsman & The Queen, and in life. KarenMarie has since sold the historic mansion and they have just finished renovating the new B&B location in Fairfax. This new set up leaves more time for the work this duo enjoys the most. Our client on the Fairfax Cambridge line had a steeply pitched roof and absolutely no dormers. They wanted natural light and to break up the look of the house with dormers. Here are the before and after pictures.  Though it was the dead of winter and very cold, Larry worked within the limits of the weather by prefabricating some items and thus only having to have the house opened up for a very minimal time.

Here’s the before and after of a floor makeover in Saint Albans recently. This is a rental unit that was not treated well. The landlord/owner asked for vinyl plank that would wear well. This luxury waterproof vinyl made a huge difference.

Here is one of our projects. Finishing is happening now, but this is how we designed and built a custom greenhouse for one of our established (repeat) clients. She wanted to use specific windows that were sourced from an old barn, and flooring that would be stable regardless of the season, but hold up to water sprayed inside. Here's a Before & After we are just about finished with. Just a few touch ups to paint and ceiling, and wishing the AC unit didn't have to be in the picture!
KarenMarie wanted to remove the door and take out the noise from the adjoining room as well make the space more cozy and better for storage. She had a very specific design in mind. The room before seemed cool and plain.
We added sound proofing material and our wood finish to the wall, using nothing but simple Minwax Wood Finish Natural Stain.
Next, Larry custom built the cabinetry according to her design ideas, which included working around the existing baseboard. KarenMarie used a combination of Minwax Cherry Stain and Simple White Gel Stain on the countertops, followed by two coats of water-based Minwax Polycrylic in clear semi-gloss. The drawer fronts were also done in cherry and simple white--she wanted the texture to show through and coordinate with the wall behind.
Next she added brushed gold accents with the cupboard and drawer pulls, and the rechargeable and dimmable light above the bed, as well as the matching dimmable lights on either side.
Finally, the walls are Benjamin Moore Clear Spring.

Note: The bed in the before picture is a queen. The After is a king.
