⚡ Why Do Breakers Keep Tripping?

A breaker tripping once in a while can be normal.

But repeated trips may be a sign your electrical system needs attention.

This older GE service panel in Ogden was original to the home and is fairly common for houses of this age throughout Northern Utah.

Repeated breaker trips can sometimes point to:
✔️ Overloaded circuits
✔️ Loose electrical connections
✔️ Aging breakers or panels
✔️ Wiring issues
✔️ Increased electrical demand

Electrical issues often develop gradually over time before larger problems appear.

⚡ Half the House Lost Power—Here’s What We Found

We recently responded to a home in Clearfield where the homeowner reported that half of the house had suddenly lost power.

After inspection, we found that one of the main service cable connections at the main breaker had become extremely loose over time, causing overheating and eventual failure.

The meter panel was original to the home and approximately 35–40 years old.

Issues like this usually develop slowly over many years and often aren’t obvious until a failure finally occurs.

Fortunately, a replacement main breaker was available and power was restored without requiring a full meter panel replacement.

Routine electrical inspections and maintenance can help identify loose or failing connections before they become larger issues.

⚡ Tesla EV Charger Installation–Layton, Utah

We recently completed this Tesla charger installation for a homeowner in Layton (Davis County).

The project included:
✔️ New 60-amp / 240-volt dedicated circuit
✔️ Run from the main service panel to the garage
✔️ Surface-mounted EMT conduit installation
✔️ Clean, code-compliant setup ready for daily charging

The homeowner chose an exposed conduit installation, which means the quality of the conduit work really matters. Clean bends and layout make a big difference in the finished result—and that comes with experience.

The best part? Seeing that Tesla charger glowing green and ready to go ⚡

⚡ 5 Signs Your Electrical Panel May Need an Upgrade

Most panels don’t suddenly “go bad”—they usually give warning signs over time.

These photos were taken during a recent electrical inspection for a home purchase in Kaysville. While the panel appeared fairly normal visually, further inspection revealed significant overheating issues at several breakers.

That’s one reason electrical problems aren’t always obvious just by looking at a panel.

Some common signs a panel may need attention include:
✔️ Breakers tripping often
✔️ Flickering or dimming lights
✔️ Panels over 25 years old
✔️ Planning to add an EV charger or major appliance
✔️ Running out of space for circuits

Electrical inspections can help identify hidden issues before they become larger problems — especially in older homes or during a home purchase.

If you’re unsure about your panel or electrical system, we’re always happy to help answer questions.

⚠️ Would you feel safe with one of these in your home?

These are real electrical panels we’ve come across in Ogden, Utah—and each one needed attention due to age, condition, or outdated design.

Some of the panels shown include Zinsco and Federal Pacific panels, which are well-known in the industry for reliability concerns as they get older.

We also often see:
✔️ Signs of wear or overheating
✔️ Improper modifications
✔️ Panels that aren’t designed for today’s electrical demand

The tricky part?
Many of these panels are still “working”… until they’re not.

If you’re not sure what your panel looks like or how old it is, it may be worth a quick check.

⚠️ Outdated Push-O-Matic Panel in Clinton, UT

This is a panel we recently replaced—and it’s a good example of something many homeowners don’t realize is still in their home.

Push-O-Matic panels are very old and discontinued, and they’re known for reliability concerns when it comes to tripping properly under certain conditions.

Even if everything seems to be working, older panels like this can become a safety issue over time.

We upgraded this home to a modern panel for safer, more reliable power.

If your home has an older panel and you’re not sure what you’re looking at, we’re happy to take a look.

⚡️200 Amp Panel Upgrade in Uintah, Utah

Recently completed 200 amp electrical panel upgrade in Uintah, Utah (Weber County) to safely support a new pool installation and refeed a 100 amp interior subpanel.

The existing system did not have the capacity to handle the additional load. We upgraded the main service to 200 amps (location approved by Rocky Mountain Power), relocated the interior breaker panel from the bathroom to the hallway, installed new breakers, and configured a dedicated 100 amp feeder to the interior breaker panel to ensure balanced load distribution and long-term safety.

Panel upgrades are often necessary when:
• Adding a pool or hot tub
• Installing an EV charger
• Remodeling or finishing a basement
• Experiencing breaker trips or overloaded circuits

All work completed to current NEC code requirements.

If you’re in Weber, Davis, or Salt Lake County and considering a service upgrade, we’re happy to provide a free estimate.
