Trust the Process.
From right to left (or top to bottom) follows the before and after of three wild looking barberry shrubs. They were hard pruned and selectively thinned in fall of last year - now look at them! Next year they’ll be ready to be shaped and manicured, but I want them to keep filling out this year.

I’ve seen barberry come back from being chopped to ground level. They really are resilient. To some that’s a bummer, to others it fulfills their want for a reliable shrub that provides multi-seasonal color.

Annual pruning/shaping after they flower can be done in late spring/early summer to prevent berries from growing on the plant.

Time to say goodbye to these flowers and clear the space for summer, heat tolerant arrangements. They were beautiful, though.

I had the pleasure of making up 9 planters for a customer. These are the 2 large pairs on their property. I look forward to sharing pictures of how gorgeous they will be in a couple weeks once the smaller plants have filled out.

Thank you again to Alison, Kate, and Ginny at/with Missouri Botanical Garden for having me as part of your Speaker Series. I’ve never presented to a crowd that large, but I sure did enjoy it.

I couldn’t be happier with how these container arrangements for shade are filling out! In fall I will be able to plant the perennials in these pots into the client’s landscape.

Full vehicle! Omw to do 11 custom container arrangements. I absolutely love THESE work days. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll plant your trees and build you a retaining wall (and I’m damn good at it), but flower display days are definitely a highlight.
