The Garden House just hit one of the most exciting phases — drywall is up.
MEP is complete, and now for the first time you can actually feel the spatial layout of every room. Metal framing to full drywall — this is when a house finally starts to feel like a home.

A few months ago we asked our followers to guess what this was.
It’s a floor mounted outlet — coordinated four months ago, before the slab was even poured, because code required an outlet on this wall and an oversized sliding door left us no other option.
Now the wires are running through conduit buried beneath the concrete, all the way to this little guy.
Building construction is magic.

There are a handful of decisions made during framing that you’ll never see in a finished photo — but they shape how the whole home lives.

Backing for floating vanities and heavy mirrors. Outlet placement based on how you’ll actually use the room, not just code minimums. Plumbing locations — including making sure the shower valve isn’t positioned right under the showerhead. And soffits designed for curtains or roller shades, with the Florida sun and privacy in mind from day one.

None of this shows up in the finished photos. But it’s exactly what makes a home function the way it’s supposed to.

Today’s my favorite day on site — because I get to tell grown men what to do.

Jokes aside — today was a full house. Mechanical, electrical and framing all on site at once, all needing an answer immediately. Loud, packed, a little chaotic — but the kind of chaos that means real progress.

This is what coordinating a real job site actually looks like.

From lines on a slab to fully coordinated walls — in just one week.
This is the primary bathroom at The Garden House, where every wall niche, light fixture, exhaust grille and smoke detector has been positioned with intention. Even the tile thickness gets accounted for so every line lands exactly where it should.
This is the kind of detail that makes a space feel effortless — even though it’s anything but.

This is the part of my job that’s hard to explain until you’ve done it a hundred times.
Right now The Garden House is just block walls, exposed steel, and bare concrete. But standing in it, I’m not seeing what’s there — I’m seeing what’s coming: the aluminum slats on the stair, the wall that’ll hide the landing behind it, the pocket doors sliding open to the yard, the fridge and pantry that’ll disappear into the kitchen island, the TV wall and bar taking shape in the den.
That’s basically the whole skill of being an architect — holding the finished space in your head while you’re standing in the unfinished one. Swipe through and I’ll show you how I’m seeing it.

The shell is done. The framers are next. And before they can build anything — we have to translate the drawings from paper to the actual floor.
Layout is one of the messiest parts of this job. Nothing is ever perfectly to plan once you're standing in the real space — every discrepancy has to go somewhere, and someone has to decide where.
This is the side of architecture most people never see. Not the renderings. Not the finished photos. The two days of back and forth that make everything after this actually work.

Remember sitting in math class thinking "when am I ever going to use this?"
Turns out — all the time.
The 3-4-5 rule is one of the simplest ways to verify a perfect 90 degree angle on site. No fancy equipment. No special tools. Just math that's been around for thousands of years.
We used it today to verify our stair opening at The Garden House — because shop drawings are coming in and they need to fit like a glove.
Your 6th grade math teacher was right. Sorry.

this 3/4” line on a drawing doesn’t look like much. just a thin callout between the slab and the pool wall.
but in the field? it’s this black, felt-like material and it’s doing real work. it lets the patio slab and the pool structure move independently, so two different pours don’t end up cracking each other over time.
it’s the kind of detail you’d never notice once tile goes down. but skip it, and you’d notice eventually — just not in a good way.
and on that note — the patio slab is officially poured, which means the garden house shell is DONE. 🎉 from foundation to roof, every detail (even the ones you can’t see) had to come together for this moment.
next up: stripping out and getting ready for the next phase. more soon 👀
