Sustainability doesn't always equate to convenient, cheaper, or easier, but it is a major priority! At the Bluebell Festival, here are ways we demonstrated some sustainable practices..
1. No unnecessary single use plastics. Containers are recycled & reused over & over
If you have containers (1-5 gallon) you'd like us to pickup in NOVA, please let us know: [email protected]
No plastic plant labels!
We use masking tape, which breaks down & fades over time, so organization in the nursery really helps to keep track of plants. No need for labels which last longer than the gardener & plant!
Although laminated due to the elements, plant info signs are used over & over and have lasted several years in counting
Take home bags are just recycled single use bags. It isn't necessary to brand everything.
2. No excessive paper use
Absolutely no business cards. We all have phones! Let's make real connections & save trees
3. Private collection of native plants
We participate in some native plant sales that benefit local nonprofit organizations, but Green Steeze is not in the retail business of selling plants as commodities. Local ecotypes are super important & so is their care! We are growing plants for our installations, which assure they are planted in the right place with best success for habitat & environment
4. No Greenhouse growing
Our native plants are grown outside and acclimated to the current weather, requiring no additional energy use to heat & light, & no artificial fertilizers to make them flower
5. No pesticide use
Native plants are often host plants to many species & we welcome them. They also have the ability to call predators for help, limiting intervention to only the manual removal of invasive species
Green Steeze is committed to continue our pursuit & implementation of better sustainable practices!
