Here’s the fix.
The old footing had completely collapsed. We dug it out, poured a brand new post and footing, and had our iron guy fabricate a custom steel column. Welded the whole thing back together.
But here’s the part most people don’t think about — while all of this was happening, we had to jack up the entire stone landing with jacks and wood supports. Hold it in the air. Keep it stable. Replace all the rotted cross-supports underneath.
Then one of my guys repainted everything so it looks like nothing ever happened.
