As artists, we're always looking for inspiration. Sometimes we find it in nature, in mythology, or on a blank canvas waiting for the first brushstroke.

And sometimes, inspiration is much simpler.

It's a quiet moment on the couch with a loyal friend who asks for nothing except to be close.

This is Pandelis, my little reminder to slow down and appreciate the gentle moments that often become the most meaningful memories.

Every painting begins with searching for the story hidden beneath the surface.
Not with color.
Not with detail.

Just a few quiet charcoal lines.
This is the stage I love because anything is still possible. The composition is taking shape, the symbols are finding their place, and the first whispers of the painting begin to appear.

From here, I'll continue building the artwork with layers of oil glazes and opaque, allowing light and depth to slowly emerge.
Every finished painting starts with this quiet beginning.

Sometimes people ask me why the women in my paintings almost always have their eyes closed.

The answer has never been about technique.

For me, the eyes are the window through which other people can see our soul.

But I also believe that some parts of our soul are sacred.

The women in my paintings choose to close their eyes because they carry something precious within themselves: a dream, a memory, wisdom gained through experience, or a quiet hope for the future.

They don't need to explain themselves.

They don't seek attention.

They simply exist in a moment of stillness, where silence becomes a source of strength rather than emptiness.

Perhaps that's why my figures often feel peaceful. They aren't searching for answers in the outside world. They already trust the quiet wisdom within.

My wish is that, for just a moment, my paintings offer you that same feeling—a chance to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with your own inner voice.

Because sometimes the greatest discoveries aren't found by opening our eyes...

They're found by gently closing them.

The Story Behind My Paintings

Many people see the finished painting, but very few know the story behind the artist.

Today, I wanted to share a few things about myself that explain why I paint the way I do.

As a child, I wasn't the loudest person in the room. I was the quiet one—the child who listened, observed, remembered, and escaped into books. Stories became my safe place. Through classic literature, mythology, and history, I discovered women who appeared gentle but possessed extraordinary inner strength.

I think those stories never really left me.

If you've noticed that many of my paintings feature women with closed eyes, it isn't by accident. They aren't sleeping. They are dreaming, remembering, reflecting, or quietly holding a secret. They invite us to pause and look inward instead of outward.

I also love painting flowing white dresses. For me, they are more than beautiful fabric. They reveal movement, light, memory, and transformation—making the invisible visible.

Every symbol in my paintings has a purpose. Whether it's an owl, a flower, a horse, a boat, or a goddess, each one carries a story waiting to be discovered.

I've been fortunate to call three places home—Eastern Europe, Greece, and Arizona. Each has shaped the way I see the world and has become part of my artistic language.

But more than anything, I don't paint simply to create something beautiful for a wall.

I paint to create a place where people can pause, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.

A place of peace.

A place of hope.

A place that reminds us that even the most difficult experiences can become something beautiful.

If my paintings have one message, it is this:

The strongest are those who are quiet.

Today from my Southwest collection: "The Wind Remembers Her" — 24" x 24" oil over mixed media on canvas

I painted her with her eyes closed because she isn't performing for anyone. She's listening. The desert wind remembers women like her — the ones who stay soft and strong at the same time.

Created in my Glendale AZ studio with layered oils over acrylics and pastes and a warm, dusty palette.
