Here's one nobody thinks about until it happens.

Snow doesn't just melt off a roof. It slides. And a metal roof lets it all go at once, in one big whoosh... right onto whatever is sitting underneath.

Front steps. The AC unit. The hood of your truck.

So here's this week's tip: before the first snow, walk around your house and look up. Ask yourself, "If everything on that roof came down right now, what's sitting underneath?"

Doors. Walkways. Gas meter. AC unit. Propane tank. The car you parked by the garage.

Move what you can. Keep the kids and dogs clear. And if a spot is a problem you can't move, there are snow guards and retention bars that hold it up there and let it melt off slowly.

We just finished the roof on this beautiful home in this stunning setting!

The old roof was leaking and had some rotted sheathing that needed to be replaced. We took care of the base layers first to ensure a solid base for the new roof.

This install came together very well, it is so nice and clean and bright!

Sometimes new is better.

This old shower has seen better days. Fixing wasn’t an option. We took it all out and installed the new one. We also got to take care of a couple of plumbing issues that we discovered in the wall.

That’s the way we like to do it. Fix it right or not at all. If we encounter issues that are hidden, we will do our best to ensure that they are taken care of and everything is solid before moving forward with the project.

Be ready before it’s too late!

Here is a fall home checklist. I’m curious, do you think I missed anything?

✅ Clean gutters and downspouts.
✅ Inspect your roof for missing or damaged shingles or panels.
✅ Check flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights.
✅ Check exterior caulking around windows and doors.
✅ Look for damaged siding or loose trim.
✅ Check weatherstripping around exterior doors.
✅ Disconnect garden hoses and protect exposed plumbing.
✅ Seal gaps where pipes and wires enter the house.
✅ Trim tree limbs hanging over the roof.
✅ Check the foundation for cracks or water pooling.
✅ Inspect the chimney and have it cleaned before the first fire.
✅ Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
✅ Check barn and outbuilding roofs, doors, and latches.

Tip Tuesday:

Take 10 minutes this week and walk around your house with your phone.

Take pictures of everything. Every side of the house. The roof line. The siding. The garage, the barn, the shed. Then go inside and shoot the big stuff too.

Why? Because I've seen what happens after a bad storm. There's damage everywhere, and then somebody asks "what did it look like before?" Hardly anyone remembers.

Photos with the date on them make that conversation a whole lot easier. Insurance, repairs, all of it.

Takes ten minutes. Costs nothing. Save them somewhere that isn't just your phone, like email them to yourself.

And if you find something while you're out there that doesn't look right, send me a picture. I'll tell you if it matters.

The old water heater had seen better days.

We got a call about a water heater that had quit working. After some trouble shooting it was decided that repairs were not worth it on an old unit so we installed a new one. We got the water lines all hooked back up and this homeowner can enjoy a hot shower again!

We don’t see this everyday!

Here is a sneak peak at the colors on the barn we’re doing. And it is pretty awesome! The combination makes the whole thing stand out well.

Quick one for a Tuesday.

Almost every ceiling fan has a little switch on the motor housing that most people have never touched.

This time of year, FLIP IT. The fan spins the other way (clockwise), and on low speed it pulls the cold air up and pushes all that warm air stuck at the ceiling back down along the walls.

You shouldn't feel a breeze. That's the point. If you do feel one, it's still spinning the wrong way.

Takes 30 seconds and a step stool. Shut the fan off, let it stop, flip the switch, done. Some newer ones do it with the remote.

Details matter!

We just wrapped up the soffit and fascia on this house and the result is phenomenal! Every detail and corner came together into a perfect finish.

What used to be open for birds, rodents, and insects is now sealed off and properly covered.
