STORMS SOON - our forecast is turning active again!

After looking over data this morning, it appears we’ll have multiple rounds of rain and storms soon.

Our first wave is Thursday night and into Friday morning, which will feature a low severe weather risk.

Then we move to Saturday night for our next potential round. Sunday and possibly Monday will also feature chances as well.

I want to reiterate, it is not going to rain nonstop for 5 days straight.

However, if you have outdoor plans as we roll into the weekend and early next week, pay attention to the forecast.

Downloading the Arkansas Weather Network mobile app will help!

That mud nest under your roof? The one dripping on your patio?

Each adult barn swallow eats approximately 850 flying insects per day. Mosquitoes. Gnats. Flies. Flying ants. Beetles. Wasps.

Both parents together: 1,700 per day.

When 4-5 babies fledge and start feeding themselves? The family collectively eats 4,000-5,000 insects per day from your immediate area.

For 4-6 weeks.

That's roughly 150,000-200,000 insects removed from your yard in one nesting season.

The droppings on your patio are annoying. They're also the receipt for 200,000 fewer mosquitoes, gnats, and flies in your life.

Barn swallows are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Removing an active nest with eggs or young is a federal crime. Fines up to $15,000.

But more importantly — why would you?

What to do:
Place a board or old towel under the nest to catch droppings. Hose off weekly. Problem solved.
The nesting period is 4-6 weeks from egg to fledge. Then they leave. The droppings stop.
Don't install nest deterrents until AFTER nesting season ends (September-October).
Install a shelf or ledge nearby to encourage nesting in a less problematic location next year.
Enjoy the air show — barn swallows are the most acrobatic fliers in North America. They catch insects on the wing at 30+ mph with turns that would break a fighter jet.

200,000 fewer bugs. For 6 weeks of droppings.

That's a deal you should take every time.

HERE COMES THE HEAT, summer is loading up guys.

Next week will feature our first true “blob of nasty” pattern for Arkansas of summer, 2026.

New followers might ask, what is a blob of nasty?

It’s a made up term I coined to described a heat wave style pattern, otherwise known as a “heat dome” or “ridge of high pressure”.

Blob of nasty is way more fun to say, most people don’t even know what a ridge of high pressure is.

Expect several days of highs well into the 90’s, oppressive humidity and heat index values near and above 100.

Is this anything usual? No, will it be fun? No.

Things go downhill fast this weekend and stay that way for several days.

Are you excited? I know someone somewhere is (it’s Meteorologist James Bryant).

Y’all ready for this heat? 😵‍💫

Monday (June 1st) is the first day of meteorological summer.

It certainly looks the part with an inflated heat index across Arkansas. This is due to warm temperatures and high humidity.

This weekend will be warm and humid as well.

We’ve avoided the summer woes as long as possible. This was inevitable.

Luckily this looks brief, as we go back to normal through mid to late week.

Of course, the nasty heat and humidity will return again eventually with summer looming.

Whooooo!!!! Goodness! This was a major overhaul.
Ripped out soooo many trees and shrubs, trimmed the boxwoods, removed tons of ground cover, added metal edging around the walkway, fresh black cedar mulch, nice little gravel accents, cute flowers in the front for some color pop.
On the side of the house in the blank bed..i’d like to eventually add hostas and corabells for a low maintenance shade garden

But it turned out absolutely beautiful!
What do yall think?

So so much color for two of my clients who are neighbors !!! Love love love !!

🌳 YOUR LANDSCAPER IS KILLING YOUR TREES. AND BILLING YOU FOR IT.

Late May. Mulch delivery season.
Landscapers across America are building mulch volcanoes RIGHT NOW.

And trees are dying. Slowly. Expensively.

THE MULCH VOLCANO DEATH SENTENCE:
▸ Mulch piled against trunk → traps moisture → bark rots
▸ Rotting bark → fungal infection → tree decline
▸ Roots grow INTO the mulch pile → circle the trunk → girdling roots
▸ Girdling roots STRANGLE the tree from the outside
▸ Timeline: 5-15 years from healthy tree to dead tree
▸ By the time you notice, it's too late

THE CORRECT METHOD (takes 30 seconds):
✓ Mulch in a DONUT shape — 2-4 inches deep
✓ Keep mulch 4-6 inches AWAY from the trunk
✓ The root flare (where trunk widens into ground) must be VISIBLE
✓ Extend mulch to the drip line if possible
✓ Never exceed 4 inches total depth

THE FINANCIAL DAMAGE:
▸ Mature tree removal: $1,500-5,000
▸ Mature tree replacement: impossible in your lifetime
▸ Property value loss from one dead mature tree: $10,000-30,000
▸ Cost to fix mulch right now: $0 (just pull it back)

WHY LANDSCAPERS DO IT WRONG:
▸ Mulch volcanoes are FASTER to install
▸ They use more mulch (bigger sale)
▸ They "look" like more work was done
▸ Most landscapers have ZERO arborist training
▸ They won't be there when the tree dies

LATE MAY ACTION:
Walk outside right now.
Look at your tree trunks.
Can you see where the trunk meets the ground?

No? Pull the mulch back. Today.

3 inches of space = 30 more years of tree.
3 inches of mulch against bark = a $5,000 funeral.

Tell your landscaper. Show them this post.
If they argue — fire them.
