Thank you to the staff at the Kohler Design Center in Kohler, Wisconsin. What a magnificent tour. All the latest lines, inspirations, and amenities.

If you’ve not been here to see all that is the latest in kitchen and bath, you must come! This will be a great piece of information to pass along to our interior designer partners, as well as our homeowner clients when they’re looking for inspiration.

They have a kitchen and bath team on sight to assist you with your custom build or renovation. Next time, we will visit the foundry where they are still making the products we saw today.

What fantastic hospitality, especially Jim who greeted us at the door. Truly an instruction himself. Thank you.

Your team coordinates the model. But not every stakeholder truly understands what they’re building before construction begins.

BIM and VDC are essential. But seeing coordinated systems on paper or a tablet or television screens is not the same as experiencing how they fit together in the real world.

Walk Your Plans Des Moines bridges that gap.

We bring digital models into our studio at 1:1 scale, connecting wall systems, MEP infrastructure, structural elements, and floor plans so stakeholders can see, understand, and evaluate the space before it becomes reality.

For MEP and VDC teams, architects, general contractors, and preconstruction leaders, this creates another level of project validation. For owners, physicians, clinical teams, facilities leaders, and C-suite decision-makers, it provides something they rarely get: the ability to experience the design at full scale and understand what’s behind the walls before committing to construction.

This isn’t a toy. It’s a better way to make critical decisions before those decisions become expensive realities.

If you can give your clients this level of clarity before construction, why wouldn’t you evaluate its value on every project?

Confidential project reviews and NDAs are available for projects requiring additional security.

A homeowner walks into our studio holding a photo on their phone.

The kitchen in that photo is beautiful. The island looks enormous. The light pours in. The ceiling seems to float.

Then we put their actual plans on our studio floor at true 1:1 scale, and they walk it.

And the questions change.

“Wait, is this the island? I thought there’d be more room behind it.”

“The pantry door hits the fridge?”

“That window is smaller than I pictured.”

“Can two people actually cook in here at once?”

None of these clients did anything wrong.

Inspiration photos, renderings, and now AI-generated images aren’t built from your plans. They’re built from someone else’s dream, or from no plans at all.

Your house isn’t.

Your house is built from a set of drawings, and most people can’t read drawings the way they’ll live in them. That’s why so many “I didn’t realize…” moments happen after the framing is up, when every change costs time, money, and patience.

In our first year, homeowners and builders walking residential plans in our studio identified 1,249 changes before a single board was cut.

Some ideas turned out not to be possible. Many turned out to be possible with one small move captured on our studio floor and saved on our Vibe Board. Every one of them was found while it was still that easy to change.

That’s the difference.

A picture shows you what could be.

Walking your plans shows you what WILL be.

Not a dream. Not a rendering. An experienced reality of your actual plans, before you build.

CUSTOM HOMEOWNERS

𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞. 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬.

You’ve looked at the floor plans. You’ve studied the renderings. You’ve tried to picture where everything will go and what your home will actually feel like.

But there’s only so much you can understand from a drawing.

What if you could experience your future instead?

Imagine stepping into your future home at full 1:1 scale while it’s still being developed—before the design is finalized, before estimating and budget, and long before construction begins.

Stand in the kitchen. Walk the hallway. Experience the bedrooms. Check the stairs. Imagine your furniture in the spaces.

Then ask the questions:

Is this really how I want it? Is this room big enough? What if we move this wall? What if we adjust the island?

Talk about it. Change it. Walk it again.

Experience the future.

Don’t wait until construction begins to discover something doesn’t work. Don’t settle for, “We’ll figure it out later.”

Changes made while you’re developing your home are conversations. Changes discovered after construction begins can become change orders, delays, additional costs, frustration, and compromises.

Nobody wants to stand in a newly built room thinking:

“I wish we’d caught this earlier.”

What if you could?

THAT is what Walk Your Plans Des Moines brings to the homebuilding process.

See your future home before it exists. Make the changes while they’re still easy to make.

Your home. Experienced before it’s built.

WALK IT BEFORE YOU BUILD IT.

If you would like to see what your future home actually feels like before construction begins, let’s talk.

We could not be more honored that be asked to be part of this research study.

To introduce new technology to students therapists, and the people they care for after a brain injury. Our partners at Architectural Designs are fantastic to help us work through the barrier of finding a set of plans that were close to the design of the person served home.

Thank you Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences and On With Life for this opportunity. We are very excited to work together to help people get home sooner!

Thank you to Hubbell Homes and Hubbell Realty Company for coming into the studio to work through the new Madrid house plan, including two- and three-car garage options.

During a 90-minute working session, the team moved through the plan at life size and made meaningful updates to the kitchen, dining, and living areas—identifying opportunities to improve the layout, create additional usable space, and add square footage on both the main and lower levels.

As the team reviewed markups in real time on the Vibe Board, one member of the executive team said, “This is why we do this.”

And we appreciate that sentiment — creating the best possible home and plans BEFORE it gets built.

Hubbell recognizes that our shared process can be a meaningful market differentiator: helping create better plans, reduce uncertainty before construction, and deliver greater value to homebuyers at every price point.

We are proud to have the Hubbell family of brands as a partner and look forward to welcoming the team back on October 12 for an extended review of additional plan details, including electrical, mechanical, and further opportunities to maximize space for future homeowners.

37% of homeowners who renovated last year blew past their budget.

That’s not a guess. It comes from the 2026 U.S. Houzz & Home Study, which surveyed more than 20,000 homeowners.

Here’s what drove it:

→ 35% chose higher-end materials than they planned
→ 32% ran into complexity they didn’t see coming
→ 31% changed the scope or design

Read that again. Those aren’t bad-luck problems. They’re decisions made too late: after the framing is up, the order is placed, and every change costs more time and money.

And with more homeowners putting projects on credit cards, a late change doesn’t just cost more. It costs more for longer.

There’s a better way: make the big decisions BEFORE the first swing of the hammer.

At Walk Your Plans Des Moines, we project your plans at full scale on our studio floor. You walk your kitchen, your primary suite, your addition at full size, with your builder or designer right beside you.

You’ll know if the island is too big.
If the hallway is too tight.
If the pantry is where you’ll actually reach for it.
If the bathroom works for you at 45 AND at 75.

In our first year, owners caught 1,600 change elements in our studio. That’s an estimated $7.8M in change orders that never reached the jobsite.

Nine in 10 homeowners hire a pro.

The smart ones walk the plan first.

Your budget. Your home. Your call. Made while it’s still cheap to change.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Please take time to get yourself checked—whether or not you carry a breast cancer gene. Genetics are only one part of the picture; environmental and other risk factors can affect anyone.

Schedule your recommended screenings, know your normal, and perform regular self-checks. If you notice any changes, please contact your healthcare provider.

This cause is especially meaningful to us because several dear friends have battled breast cancer—and thankfully, they have all survived. I’ve also had the privilege of learning about homeowner clients who have recently faced cancer and won their battles.

Please share this message and help spread awareness. Early detection can make a life-changing difference.

Take care of yourself. Get checked. Spread the word.
