Every winter crew knows how it goes - A “few” snow removal jobs turns into a full calendar real quick. Between roof snow, access, safety, and keeping properties clear beginning at the crack of dawn, Colorado winter does not leave much room for an off season.

With 5 members of our team as former Western Students - we are always up for a little pride. We spend our days building across Gunnison Country, but this community is more than where we work. It is home.

Always happy to show up, support Western Colorado University alumni, and cheer on the people who keep this valley strong.

These homes on the slopes of Mount Crested Butte don’t just get snow — they get buried in it.

Add in Narnia-level snow loads, harsh mountain weather, and wildfire exposure, and a mechanical lock standing seam roof was the clear choice for these homeowners.

This roof features Coated Metals Group Ultra Low Gloss Dark Bronze — a low-sheen, modern finish that blends with the earth tones of the surrounding landscape without competing with it.

Compared to cedar shake, mechanical lock standing seam provides a longer-lasting roof system designed to handle snow, ice, and mountain conditions — without adding the extra fuel load of wood shingles in a wildfire-prone environment.

Happy wedding anniversary to Jim & Tori! ❤️

Jim started Axtell in 2018, and a few years later found a lady who made him think about life outside of roof panels.

Tori lived with Jimi in his shop apartment and helped build Gunnison Sheet Metal alongside him — late-night metal bending, jobsite dates, and, one of their favorites, dates to the landfill.

Jim & Tori are a pretty good example of what the heart of Axtell Mtn Construction looks like: a company built on love, friendship, hard work, and genuine care for what they do and the people they do it with.

Ultra Low Gloss may be Axtell’s go-to CMG color choice, but we’ll always have a soft spot for roof colors with a little or a lotta personality. 💙

Coated Metals Group Royal Blue panels are rolling out for this Gunnison duplex, bringing together GSMRF’s local fabrication and Axtell’s roofing crew.

Here’s Owner Jim spending part of his Saturday rolling out this vibrant roof color—because there’s not much he enjoys more on a weekend than a perfectly formed panel... except maybe a little couch time...
